Dana White goes scorched earth on Eddie Hearn: 'Is there a bigger p*ssy?'

What was once a friendship between Dana White and Eddie Hearn has quickly intensified into a bitter rivalry.

Every time White or Hearn gets on a microphone these days, the tension ramps up. And in the wake of Conor Benn’s shocking move from Matchroom Boxing to Zuffa Boxing, that was on full display.

Following UFC Fight Night 267 in Houston, White reacted to the signing but was more focused on comments made by Hearn in its immediate aftermath.

“Well, I think you saw this week that I really am beating up babies,” White told reporters at Toyota Center. “Is there a bigger p*ssy than Eddie Hearn? Is there a bigger p*ssy than Eddie Hearn? This guy is supposed to be your friend. You’re f*cking crying? (Benn) made more money.”

Benn had been with Hearn and Matchroom Boxing since February of 2018, shortly after he hit the 11-0 mark. Fourteen fights and eight years later, he’s now sitting at 24-1. Benn marked the first major star White has added to his Zuffa Boxing roster since diving head-first into the sport.

In reaction to the news of Benn’s departure and signing, Hearn alleged that his longtime fighter, Benn, suddenly had turned his back on him. However, White said Hearn had matching rights and indicated Hearn lied about Benn not picking up his calls.

“He’s going to make more money, and he had the right to match it,” White said. “He could’ve matched it. … What a crock of sh*t, yeah. We’re literally beating up babies.”

Welsh Rugby Union set to face EGM

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is set to face an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) with a vote of no confidence to be held in chair Richard Collier-Keywood.

An exact date has yet to be set but the WRU has seven weeks to stage the event.

However it is likely to be held in late March or early April, after the Six Nations.

Demands for an EGM were led by the Central Glamorgan Rugby Union (CGRU) district – within the Ospreys region – who wrote to clubs in January.

The WRU previously described the prospect of an EGM as an “irresponsible first nuclear option” which would cause “significant damage” to Welsh rugby.

The district has said it now has the 10% support – about 30 of the near-300 clubs across Wales – required to force the motion.

In a letter seen by the BBC dated 22 February, CGRU honorary secretary Derek Davies said the district has “submitted the requisition” for an EGM to the WRU.

The date, time and location will be confirmed by the WRU Board.

What happens now?

The WRU has confirmed it has received a requisition from the community clubs and outlined the next steps.

The WRU must verify the requisition to ensure it is fully compliant with the process in our Constitution and Articles of Association.Within 21 days of receipt of a requisition by sufficient member clubs the WRU must give notice of the proposed date of the EGM.Once notice is given, the EGM itself must be held within 28 days.

So it could be a maximum of seven weeks from 22 February but is unlikely to take that long.

This will be a fourth EGM in 12 years with the previous annual general meeting (AGM) being held at the end of November 2025.

Central Glamorgan has not given an exact figure of clubs who have backed the proposals but thanked “the substantial number of member clubs who have also given their support without the paperwork”.

‘Heartbreaking, sad, disgrace’ – Wales fans react to state of gameSwansea Council seeks high court injunction against WRUWRU brands calls for EGM an ‘irresponsible nuclear option’

What will be discussed at the EGM?

Three motions were initially tabled in January and will be debated at the EGM.

The first is a vote of no confidence in WRU chair Collier-Keywood and Professional Rugby Board (PRB) chair Malcolm Wall, which would require a majority of more than 50% of the clubs that attend the EGM to pass.

The second motion would be for the WRU council to hold elections for the four elected member board position within 14 days after the EGM, which also requires more than 50% of the vote.

The third motion was to amend how the WRU district and council members are elected, which will require a 75% majority.

In addition to the motions, CGRU also put forward the following recommendations:

An immediate hold on plans to amend the structure of the professional game, with a full review of WRU finances and organisation structure to be undertaken to identify where money can be saved (executive and board salaries, consultants) to support the professional, SRC and community game in Wales.A rugby steering group to be set up within three weeks comprising of people from the professional, SRC and community game along with business sector. This group will be directed to advise on rugby related matters and negate the need for expensive consultants.A central national academy to be set up within three months to be totally responsible for the identification and development of talent for male and female players.Except for the WRU chief executive, chair and the Professional Rugby Board (PRB) chair, no directors (independent non-executive or WRU council members) should be paid. The new WRU chair and PRB chair appointments should be immersed in Welsh culture, have a strong understanding of Welsh rugby and values, ideally be conversant in the Welsh language and live in Wales.

Welsh rugby turmoil

The EGM news comes at a time of turmoil for Welsh rugby off the field.

Swansea Council has applied for a High Court injunction to halt the proposed deal between the WRU and Ospreys owners Y11 Sport and Media to buy rivals Cardiff.

Ospreys are under threat of being removed from the professional tier with owners Y11 the WRU’s preferred bidders to buy Cardiff from the governing body.

The WRU wants to cut one professional men’s side in Wales with Ospreys now in the firing line if Y11 buy Cardiff.

The WRU has told Swansea Council a deal will not be completed with Y11 before 16 March.

On the field, Wales, who have lost the opening three games against France, England and Scotland, finish their Six Nations campaign against Italy in Cardiff on Saturday 14 March after travelling to face Ireland in Dublin eight days before.

The WRU statement continued: “The WRU published its plans for the future of the elite game in Wales at the end of October 2025, following an extensive consultation process.

“We are now focused on rolling out that plan and have been working tirelessly with the key stakeholders during the last months to agree a consensus on its implementation.

“This detailed work has been undertaken with the professional clubs, the United Rugby Championship and player representatives, and we remain committed to reaching consensus on the next steps.

“We ask all stakeholders to continue working with us. We recognise that change is challenging, but it is essential for the long-term health of the game in Wales.”

Jessie Diggins ‘full of gratitude’ after ending a glittering Olympic career in cross-country skiing

TESERO, Italy (AP) — Jessie Diggins crossed the line Sunday as she has done so often over 15 years on the world stage — with the tank entirely empty.

Collapsed on the snow with her chest heaving, Diggins ended a 50-kilometer race in fifth place — just a few seconds shy of one more medal.

“If you had told me even a year ago, I’d be in the fight for a bronze medal in a 50k classic, I would not have believed you,” she said. “I can confidently say I could not possibly have tried harder or gotten more out of my body.”

It marked the final Olympic event for an athlete who transformed American cross‑country skiing and became a symbol of endurance.

With glitter still streaked across her cheeks, the world’s top‑ranked women’s cross country skier said she was thankful for all the people who had helped her reach this stage in a career that started while she was still at high school in Minnesota.

“I am full of gratitude, joy and love and it’s just been so special. It’s taken so much work from so many people to get me here,” she said. “I’m really happy with how I’m leaving it because it was an amazing last Olympics.”

The 34-year-old Diggins won the United States’ first-ever Olympic gold medal in cross-country skiing with team sprint partner Kikkan Randall at PyeongChang in 2018, adding a silver and bronze at the Beijing Games four years later.

At Milan Cortina, she again raced to a podium position, finishing third in the 10-kilometer interval start despite suffering painful rib bruising from a crash in her opening race.

Her farewell took place at an Olympics dominated in cross-country skiing by Sweden’s women.

Diggins hung in the lead group with eventual gold medalist Ebba Andersson, of Sweden, but fell behind when she took a spill after changing her skis at the start of the third lap.

She pushed through serious muscle cramps in the second half of the race to be in a chase group that could never close the big gap behind Andersson, or catch second-place finisher, Norway’s Heidi Weng, but were all in a battle for third.

On the final climb, the wax on Diggins’ skis couldn’t seem to hold the grip necessary for her to pass Switzerland’s Nadja Kaelin, who won bronze.

The American’s legacy extends beyond results.

Diggins said she will continue to campaign for climate change awareness, as registered by dwindling snowfall globally, and to support people coping with eating disorders.

“I’m just so proud of being gritty and being able to give my best and not just in a bib, off the snow as well, doing what I need to do to be a good human and try to make the world a little bit better,” she said.

In Italy, she also leaned into levity — joining choreographed dances with younger U.S. teammates in online posts.

As a senior figure on the team, she has paired intensity with openness, encouraging younger athletes to race fiercely but stay grounded.

Although this was her final Olympic appearance, Diggins still has a mission in her final competitive season. The most decorated cross‑country skier in U.S. history leaves Italy still focused on the World Cup season.

Holding the overall lead, she will return to the circuit in the coming days to pursue another crystal globe, with final races this season taking place March 19-22 in Lake Placid, New York.

Ronn Randall, the father of her gold-medal teammate, Kikkan, had come from Alaska to watch the Olympics and was impressed by the effort Diggins still pours into each event.

“She seems to have the attitude that she wants to take part in all these like one last time and really give it one last shot,” he said. “I don’t know whether she’s going to come away sad because she didn’t win races or didn’t get a medal or whether she’s just going to be happy that she gave absolutely every bit she could in the given situation.”

With the optimism Diggins exudes, she’d probably say the latter.

Yankees legend: The Boss would’ve never been outspent by Dodgers | Klapisch

TAMPA, Fla. —You don’t have to believe in ghosts to wonder what George Steinbrenner is thinking about today’s Yankees. Nor do you have to be a genius to know The Boss would’ve already cleaned house as The Great Drought enters year 17.

One way or another, Steinbrenner lives on. He’s either embedded in the memory banks of older fans, used as a cudgel against his tame son Hal or else making former Yankees miss the good old days when finishing second was considered a tank job.

Ron Guidry falls in that last sub-set. But unlike other stars of the past who only show up once a year for Old Timers Day, Gator is in camp every day as a guest instructor.

That gives him a close-up perspective on the generation gap. He’s unafraid to say Steinbrenner, the original Boss, would be aghast.

Not just because the Bombers haven’t been champions since 2009. It’s the fact the Dodgers, of all franchises, have replaced the Yankees as the industry’s richest and most dangerous opponent.

“George would’ve found a way to match the Dodgers,” Guidry said on Saturday. “Whatever they did, he would’ve done better. If they signed one star, George would’ve signed two. He would’ve tried his best to stop what’s going on.”

Guidry delivered his verdict in a calm, measured voice. Unlike his late 70s teammate Goose Gossage, who criticized GM Brian Cashman so frequently he was finally excommunicated, the great lefthander doesn’t have a get-off-my-lawn gene.

He’s a truth teller who isn’t bitter about getting older. Guidry doesn’t resent this generation of major leaguers, especially the less talented ones who are making more money than an old school, tobacco-chewing Yankee could’ve ever imagined.

That’s an important distinction. Guidry is on good terms with the current hierarchy, including Hal Steinbrenner. His praise for The Boss isn’t meant as criticism. Guidry is smart enough to know how much the industry and its owners have changed.

But he’s also convinced the Yankees of the 70s were driven to succeed by The Boss’ frequent blow-ups. Steinbrenner’s medium of choice was the tabloids, and players used to live in fear of those 96-point headlines authored by the man himself.

“One way or another, you’d go looking for the newspaper every morning to see what George had to say,” Guidry said.

“Today, it’s really calm (in the clubhouse). When I was playing, there was always tension, guys were always looking over their shoulders, like ‘what’s next?’”

Guidry smiled as he drew a contrast to the present day media and how the Yankees no longer have to worry about being blasted by the owner.

“It’s actually boring this way,” Guidry said. “The players today don’t have to deal with the tension. They’ve never experienced that.

“But George knew what he was doing. He’d wait to see if you’d stand up to him. Because if you had the guts to do that, then he knew you weren’t afraid of anyone. That’s the kind of player he wanted on his team.”

Guidry went on to cite one of Steinbrenner’s most enduring attributes: he loved the Yankees fiercely enough to always be looking for ways to give them an edge.

Despite his reputation for uncontrollable anger, he was actually a keen businessman who realized the Yankees would eventually need additional sources of revenue. Tickets, hot dogs and beer sales wouldn’t be enough,

Along with Ted Turner, who founded TBS, Steinbrenner was a pioneer of the first wave of regional sports networks. The Boss was determined to stop giving away broadcasts for free on the MSG Network. That’s how the YES Network was born.

He and team president Randy Levine laid the groundwork for the new Stadium, which was full of corporate suites. By that point the Yankees’ business model had changed radically from the late 70s.

But the sport has continued to evolve in a way that Steinbrenner may or may not have realized at the time of his passing in 2010.

There are more wealthy owners than ever who can compete with the Yankees’ portfolio. Front offices are populated by highly educated executives. The era of ex-players who became bad general managers is long gone.

And then there’s the Dodgers. It’s understandable that Guidry believes Steinbrenner could’ve defeated them in any bidding war. That’s The Boss that Guidry knew.

But today’s Yankees hierarchy is up against Guggenheim Baseball Management, an equity and investment empire that funds the Dodgers. Their assets are worth an estimated $330-$345 billion.

No one can touch the Dodgers’ riches. Not the Steinbrenner family, not even Mets owner Steve Cohen.

Although Guggenheim is playing within the current rules, it’s likely Steinbrenner would’ve challenged the commissioner and the other 28 owners to re-think that equation,

Is it fair for a team to use other peoples’ money? The Yankees aren’t the only ones asking that question. It may be become a focal point in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Guidry doesn’t have the answer, but his endorsement of The Boss had less to do with money than heart. His memory is shaped by a man who hated to lose.

Which is why, when asked how The Boss would respond to the current championship drought in the Bronx, Guidry smiled so broadly his eyes momentarily turned into slits.

“George would not be happy right now,” he said. “You can be sure about that.”

We’re in that slow period between the Super Bowl and the new league year, where it sometimes feels like the NFL world has ground to a halt. And that makes it a perfect time to ask: Where in the world are our Dawgs By Nature readers? Where are our Cleveland Browns Dawgs at?

We don’t want or need your address or any personal details — sharing just the state is fine, or city and state if you’d like to be more specific. Same thing if you live abroad – if you’d like to just share the country, that’s cool, and if you want to share more details like the city or region, that’s totally up to you.

How Sheff Wed's earliest-ever relegation unfolded

Sheffield Wednesday’s relegation was confirmed with a 2-1 defeat against city rivals Sheffield United at Bramall Lane [Getty Images]

Sheffield Wednesday have been relegated from the Championship with 13 games to play.

The administration-hit side were deducted 18 points this season, and their inevitable relegation was confirmed with a defeat at city rivals Sheffield United on Sunday, which left them on -7 points, 41 adrift of safety with just 39 to play for.

It is the earliest relegation in the history of the English Football League.

A large number of the senior squad were sold or released in a chaotic summer marked by then owner Dejphon Chansiri’s failure to pay wages on time, which left the club under numerous embargoes.

Administration inevitably followed in October, and Wednesday’s depleted squad, further weakened by January exits, have struggled to compete, with one win all season and now 10 successive league defeats.

A preferred bidder for the club was announced in December but, as yet, the takeover has not been completed.

Wednesday’s only win of the campaign came in September and it looks possible they will become the first team in Football League history to end a campaign on minus points.

Sheff Wed relegated after Steel City derby defeat

A summer of unpaid wages and off-pitch upheaveal

Danny Rohl left his role as head coach shortly before the start of the 2025-26 season [Getty Images]

Protests against Thai businessman Chansiri’s ownership had increased last season, a campaign which marked 10 years since he took over at Hillsborough.

Players and staff had their wages for March delayed and then went unpaid again in May.

It proved to be the start of the end for Chansiri and for Wednesday’s Championship hopes.

As the initial delay in paying wages wore on, and with no comment from the owner, the club were hit with registration embargoes and the Professional Footballers’ Association called the situation “shocking”.

Popular boss Danny Rohl initially refused to return to the club when pre-season began before briefly returning.

In the meantime, players Josh Windass and Michael Smith both left on free transfers with their contracts ended by mutual consent.

Rohl quit at the end of July on the same day Sheffield Council announced it had not given the ground’s North Stand a safety certificate for the forthcoming campaign.

Henrik Pedersen, Rohl’s assistant, was appointed boss and captain Barry Bannan signed a new one-year deal, but the club’s chaotic summer lurched onwards as the players refused to play a training match at Burnley.

That was their final planned pre-season game and so they went into the new campaign having not played a single friendly in front of a crowd.

Protests, administration and end of an era

Fans protested before their first game of the season at Leicester City, a game where Bannan was sent off as the Owls eventually fell to a battling 2-1 defeat.

The North Stand received its safety certificate in time for the first home game of the season against Stoke City the following week. Supporter protests continued, with some holding a mock funeral for the club in nearby Hillsborough park before the match, which the Owls lost 3-0.

The home EFL Cup ties against Leeds United and Grimsby Town were both boycotted by the vast majority of fans as they tried to stop any additional money going into the club as part of the protests to get Chansiri out. The penalty shootout success, after a 1-1 draw, over Premier League side Leeds in the second round provided a rare moment of joy.

September then brought the high point of the league season as they claimed a deserved 2-0 win at Portsmouth but the club moved no closer to a takeover.

Chansiri’s reign was brought to an end on 24 October when the club was placed into administration and docked 12 points by the EFL.

Fans who had been boycotting matches and the club shop returned in droves for the following day’s 2-1 home defeat by Oxford United, and the club celebrated the end of Chansiri’s spell with a video on the big screen pre-match, while seats spelling out his name in the briefly condemned North Stand were removed.

The influx of cash meant the club’s administrators Begbies Traynor were able to pay October’s wages early, and by 10 November, proof of funds to buy the club had been provided by 10 interested parties.

The club were given a six-point deduction on 1 December for the late payment of wages under Chansiri and payments owed to His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

This left the Owls 27 points adrift of safety but it did at least mean the club should start next season in League One without the threat of further deductions.

The administrators announced they had selected a preferred bidder on 24 December, with BBC Sport reporting former professional poker player James Bord had been chosen.

The team last avoided defeat on 29 December when they played out a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Blackburn Rovers.

Bannan’s 10-year spell with the club came to an end in January when he left for Millwall, while young striker Bailey Cadamarteri was sold to Wrexham.

The administrators announced at the start of this month the club had enough money to operate through to the end of the season.

With relegation now confirmed, fans will be hoping positive news about the takeover will follow soon.

MLS: Inter Miami heavily beaten, Messi furious with the officiating

Messi / @x.com/Intermiamicfhub

Inter Miami CF stumbled out of the gate, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC on the opening day of Major League Soccer. Despite the presence of their captain Lionel Messi, the Florida club never truly found an answer.

David Martínez broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, capitalizing on a swift and perfectly executed counterattack. In the second half, Denis Bouanga doubled the lead in the 73rd minute before Nathan Ordaz put the final nail in the coffin deep into stoppage time (90+4).

With this defeat, Inter Miami starts the season empty-handed, while Los Angeles pockets its first three points.

Messi loses his cool after Inter Miami’s defeat

At the final whistle, the tension was palpable. Clearly frustrated by some of the referee’s decisions, Messi stormed towards the official in a heated protest. His teammate Luis Suárez quickly stepped in to pull him away, preventing the situation from escalating.

As defending champions, Inter Miami could hardly have started their campaign in a worse fashion. This unexpected setback now forces the Florida side to bounce back quickly if they want to keep their ambitions alive in the opening weeks.

What furious Florian Wirtz was spotted doing on Liverpool bench 10 mins into Nottingham Forest clash

Florian Wirtz cut a more than disappointed figure on the Liverpool bench in the first half of the Reds’ encounter with Nottingham Forest.

The Germany international had been primed to make his 26th appearance in the Premier League, but found himself instead sidelined after picking up an injury in the warm-up.

The 22-year-old playmaker has registered 14 goal contributions in 35 games (across all competitions) this term.

Wirtz, arms crossed and hood up, looked furious on the sideline as the camera panned to the bench (via @TouchlineX on X).

And understandably so, given how the former Bayer Leverkusen star has been enjoying a rich vein of form of late for Arne Slot’s men.

* Florian Wirtz stats (via Transfermarkt)

Doubly furious as Liverpool struggle against Nottingham Forest

Florian Wirtz’s mood didn’t show many signs of improvement as the tie progressed.

Though, of course, Liverpool hardly offered much cause for celebration in the opening half hour of action, with Forest pinning the visitors inside their own half (as BBC Sport‘s momentum chart below indicates).

Just before the 40-minute mark, the visitors hadn’t amassed a single shot on target (to Forest’s two), whilst only picking up a single touch in the opposition box.

* Liverpool and Nottingham Forest’s stats in their Premier League encounter (BBC Sport)

Whilst you’d expect Liverpool to have to weather some kind of storm away in enemy territory, it’s yet another disappointing example of a poor, sluggish start in the Premier League.

Made even more disappointing by the fact that the Reds have had plenty of recovery time – unlike Vitor Pereira’s men, who played a midweek Europa League fixture in Istanbul.

Kind of makes it hard to feel any sympathy for Arne Slot and Co. here, even despite the misfortune of a pre-game injury to Florian Wirtz.
