Tehran, capital city of Iran at the foot of the Elburz mountain range. It became the seat of the Qajar dynasty in 1786 and has since grown into a major metropolis and the economic center of Iran. Persian culture and language dominate the city, but the city is also the meeting point of many ethnic and linguistic groups.
