Vasculitis involving the small blood vessels of the retina (at the back of the eye) can occur in lupus, affecting the retinas’ ability to form a visual image. In non-lupus types of vasculitis, such as temporal arteritis, there can be sudden loss of part or all of the vision in one eye, which is usually accompanied by severe headache.
