Peter MacKay is the co-founder of the modern Conservative Party of Canada, which brought together Conservatives from across Canada under one national big blue tent in 2003. Three years later, in 2006, the party formed the government under the leadership of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper. It remained in power until 2015.
