National boys basketball rankings: USA TODAY Sports Super 25, Week 7

The top five teams in the Super 25 national high school boys basketball rankings continue to separate themselves from the rest of the nation. With playoffs underway in several states around the country, it’s worth checking in on the status of each.

No. 1 SPIRE Academy (Geneva, OH) defeated Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, NY) by 19 points, reaffirming its position at the top of the league. Just below is AZ Compass Prep (Chandler, AZ), which beat No. 14 Wasatch Academy (Mt. Pleasant, UT) and Iowa United (Des Moines, IA) to get to 20 wins — the only dark spot on its resume is the early-season loss to SPIRE.

No. 3 Paul VI (Chantilly, VA) has dominated behind do-it-all guard Jordan Smith Jr. The Arkansas commit had 38 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday against Bishop McNamara (Forestville, MD) and then eight points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and six assists against Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, VA) on Sunday.

No. 4 Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale, FL) has still only lost one game this season — to Paul VI — and doubled up on its opponent this weekend, beating Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach, FL) 76-36. At No. 5, the top California team, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA), beat Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) 70-47 in the CIF-SS Open Division.

In the same CIF bracket, No. 25 Redondo Union was upset in the playoffs by La Mirada (CA) and fell out of the Super 25. Entering the national rankings is North Crowley (Fort Worth, TX), entering the playoffs with a 29-3 record.
