Nikola Jokic sizes up Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown's MVP case

If ever there was a season for Jaylen Brown to win the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, t would be the 2025-26 regular season given the wonders the Georgia native has been doing at the tip of the spear for the Boston Celtics. In the absence of his costar on the wing, Jayson Tatum, as he recovers from the Achilles tendon injury he suffered in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. the New York Knicks, Brown has put together an MVP-worthy campaign.

But for Brown to actually win the award, there are a number of stars ahead of him in the race for this year’s MVP, such as Victor Wembanyama, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Nikola Jokic. The latter star of the Denver Nuggets weighed in on Brown’s position in the race for an award he has dominated in recent years at All-Star week.

“He (doesn’t) have his partner in crime but and he’s still proving that he can lead the team and he’s playing on a high level scoring the ball,” said Jokic of the Cal alum’s breakout season while Tatum recovers.

“And he’s such a good defensive player too, so (he’s) playing on both sides of the floor,” continued the Nuggets star.

“And like I said, I think the versatility of him that he can play both sides of the court and still score and still be dominant and still be top three (top two – Ed.). I think they are top three in the East – so he’s a really good player.”
