Oregon Ducks vs. Northwestern prediction, how to watch, odds, spread

Oregon Ducks vs. Northwestern prediction, how to watch, odds, spread
originally appeared on The Sporting News

The Oregon Ducks have garnered a lot of attention this week after their 63-3 dominance of Oklahoma State last week. The Ducks are now ranked fourth in the nation, but they go on the road to take on the Northwestern Wildcats for the first road test of the season.

However, Dan Lanning and company are still a huge favorite to win.  In last week’s 60-point victory, Oregon scored 10 touchdowns in just three quarters, including three pick-sixes. Dante Moore tossed three touchdowns and had 266 yards through the air. Noah Whittington. averaged 22.8 yards per carry. The stat sheet was well balanced and full of Ducks getting touches, but it’s a new week and a new opponent.

How to watch Oregon at Northwestern

Time: Saturday, Sep. 13, 12:00 p.m. EST

Location: Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium, Evanston, IL

Channel: Fox, Fox Sports

Oregon at Northwestern prediction, odds, spread, total

Oregon is a huge favorite once again, as they’ve been for the first three weeks of the college football season. As impressive as the Ducks have been offensively, Dante Moore has led touchdown drives in 13 of 15 offensive possessions thus far; they are equally as impressive on defense. The Ducks are going to win; it’s just a matter of by how much.

Odds courtesy of Fanduel Sportsbook:

Moneyline: Oregon -7000, Northwestern +2000

Spread: Oregon -27.5 (-105)

O/U: 48.5 (Over -110, Under -110)

Oregon at Northwestern best bets, player prop

Best bet: Oregon -27.5 (-105)

Don’t overthink this one. How much better, really, is Northwestern than Oklahoma State? Probably not much. Vegas is trying to fool you with a way lower spread total this week compared to last, likely because it’s Oregon’s first road game. Dan Lanning has both sides of the ball fired up, even playing against much worse competition. I’m taking Oregon -27.5 to win by a clean four touchdowns. They just beat a team by 60.

Player prop: Dante Moore Over 235.5 passing yards (-114)

Dante Moore tossed for 266 yards last week, and there was no shortage of chunk passing plays. A couple of his touchdowns went for 40 yards and he completed 76% of his passes. The playbook is going to be opened up once again, and I love Moore going over his prop of 235.5 passing yards.

Haiden Deegan nips Max Anstie in St. Louis SuperMotocross practice

Haiden Deegan posted a fastest lap of 1:13.863 in Friday’s practice session for Round 2 of the SuperMotocross World Championship playoffs in St. Louis and narrowly edged Max Anstie for the top speed. Deegan’s best time was laid down in the second session, although he also topped the first practice with a speed of 1:14.786.

Returning to action for the playoffs, unseeded rider Anstie posted a lap of 1:13.990, which was 0.127 seconds slower than Deegan’s. He set his best lap in the second session. Regardless of his practice time today or qualification speed tomorrow, he will have to make his way into the Feature program through the Wild Card race.

Last week, Seth Hammaker (1:14.391) posted the fastest time on Friday and held his speed through Saturday, finishing second in the single moto that the weather allowed.

Levi Kitchen (1:14.442) was fourth on the chart, closely following his Monster Energy Star Kawasaki teammate Hammaker.

Ryder DiFrancesco (1:14.492) rounded out the top five.

Jo Shimoda (1:14.616) was further down the chart than he would have liked. He had the sixth fastest lap in the combined sessions, but that was an improvement on his ranking from zMax Dragway in Round 1. He was 10th overall in Concord, North Carolina, but showed up race-ready on Saturday with arguably the fastest bike before finishing third.

No. 10 Maryland field hockey defeats Penn, 3-1

The first penalty corner of No. 10 Maryland field hockey’s clash against Penn came after just one minute of play. Forward Maci Bradford took to the baseline, then swept the ball across the circle to Fleur Knopert. Knopert took an accurate swing at the goal, but her shot was blocked by Quakers goalie Ruby de Frees.

The Terps’ second corner came shortly after the first, and yielded much better results. Bradford once again took a stance toward the goalie, lining up for a pass to fellow forward Ella Gaitan. Gaitan knocked the ball back to Bradford, who had a wide-open look to convert the first goal of the game.

With a goal under its belt, a fire lit under Maryland’s feet. That early momentum catapulted the Terps to a 3-1 victory over Penn in the Terrapin Invitational Friday.

Penn forward Honor Roberts retaliated to Maryland’s first score, using the Quakers’ first penalty corner opportunity to tie the game just four minutes after the Terps took the lead.

Maryland’s next big offensive possession didn’t come until 10 minutes later, lining up around the circle for yet another scoring opportunity. Bradford passed again to Gaitan, who launched the ball towards the goal. It narrowly missed, bouncing off the post.

Forward Djuna Eikelboom took a similar chance earlier in the second quarter during an offensive crackdown on Penn’s defense. With a clear look towards the goal, Eikelboom slid the ball right around Penn’s defense, but barely missed the inside wall of the goal.

A Maryland foul in the final 90 seconds of the first half opened the door for Penn to take the lead with a penalty shot. Knopert acted as a wall after the ball was inserted, knocking it so far from the Quakers it went out of bounds.

Alyssa Klebasko requested a video review with just 45 seconds left before halftime, hoping to avoid another penalty corner. Even though the call on the field remained, Klebasko blocked three shots on goal in just 25 seconds, solidifying her 85.7% save percentage for the game.

After two unsuccessful team shots and aggressive midfield action, midfielder Maia Adamson found herself with a ball at her stick, a wide open field and three and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter.

She began her trek down the center of the field, swerving through Quakers’ midfielders and defenders. Without a clear look towards the net, Adamson passed to Bradford in the middle of the shooting circle. Bradford found the net again, finally allowing the Terps to reclaim their lead.

Bradford moved to three goals for the season so far, tying for the team lead with freshman Jordyn Hollamon. Despite that individual success, though, Bradford attributed much of Friday’s scoring to the hard work of her teammates.

“We talked a lot about working together, making eye contact, we’re communicating,” Bradford explained. “Our connection off the field is very strong, and it helps us on the field.”

Callie Rogers found herself in a similar position as Adamson only two minutes later. Rogers quickly slid the ball to Maddie Vasilios, who was able to chip the ball to the top right corner of the net for another goal, doubling the lead and cementing what ended up the final score.

The fourth quarter saw a battle of defenders, with zero allowed shots on goal from either team. With a strong lead set in stone, Maryland was tasked with keeping the Quakers out of the shooting circle, a task they managed well, closing the match.

Three things to know

1. Back end stood tall. Maryland’s defense locked down Penn’s offense, leaving them scoreless after their first goal, and shotless for the entirety of the second half.

2. Deep into the bench. Meharg played 19 players out of her 26-player roster. Only goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko stayed in for the entire game; every other player only played 42 minutes on average.

3. Back in action. Maddie Vasilios’ goal on Friday marked the junior’s first goal since August 2023 against UC Davis in her freshman year.

Friday night Orioles game thread: at Blue Jays, 7:07

Tonight in Toronto, the best team in the American League will take the field…and they’ll be playing against the Blue Jays. Hey now!

I kid, of course. It’s the Jays who have the AL’s best record. But your Baltimore Orioles are certainly the hottest team in the American League at the moment. They’re 8-1 in September, having swept both the Padres and Pirates and taking two of three from the Dodgers. While I would stop short of saying that the O’s are clicking on all cylinders, they’ve done just enough to win a lot of games this month. Now they’ll face their toughest test yet in a Toronto squad that’s on track to win the AL East for the first time in a decade. The Jays will look to rack up some wins to increase their division lead over the Yankees and Red Sox, who are playing each other this weekend.

Tyler O’Neill returns to the Orioles just in time for their visit to his home country. It’s hard to believe that this is the Orioles’ first trip to Toronto since the opening series of the season, when they crushed the Jays 12-2 with six homers on Opening Day. Boy, have the two teams’ fortunes turned ever since. O’Neill socked one of those six dingers in front of his friends and family, extending his MLB-record Opening Day home run streak to six in a row, reaching base all five times in his Orioles debut.

As with the Orioles, it’s been all downhill for O’Neill ever since. He’s returning from his third stint on the injured list this year, this time with right wrist inflammation. He’s been limited to 43 games and is slashing .210/.293/.434 with eight home runs. There’s no chance he’ll exercise his opt-out after this season, but it would be nice if he can be healthy and productive for these last three weeks and come back strong in 2026. It may be a lot to ask, I know.

Makin has to settle for bronze at World Champs

Callum Makin’s opponent Rami Kiwan boxed at the 2024 Paris Olympics [Getty Images]

Callum Makin had to settle for a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships after a semi-final defeat in the men’s 75kg division.

The 21-year-old middleweight was beaten by Rami Kiwan at the M&S Arena in Liverpool on Friday – the judge scoring all five rounds to his Bulgarian opponent.

Makin’s fellow Liverpudlian Odel Kamara is one of four other British fighters already guaranteed bronze before their semi-finals at the weekend.

Kamara faces Torekhan Sabyrkhan of Kazakhstan on Saturday in the men’s 70kg semi-final after his win over Mongolia’s Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar.

Teagn Stott is through to the semi-finals in the men’s 85kg following a second-round stoppage against Semion Boldirev of Bulgaria and will now take on Ukrainian Danylo Zhasan.

Elsewhere, Chantelle Reid will square up against Natalya Bogdanova in the semi-finals of the women’s 70kg after beating Mengge Zhang.

Emily Asquith beat Turkey’s Elif Guneri in the women’s 80kg to secure a last-four meeting with India’s Pooja Rani.

Real Sociedad boss highlights key change Xabi Alonso has made at Real Madrid

Real Sociedad boss highlights key change Xabi Alonso has made at Real Madrid

Xabi Alonso heads back to where it all began this weekend as Real Madrid take on Real Sociedad on their La Liga return.

Los Blancos have enjoyed a perfect start to the league campaign under Alonso with three wins from three games n August.

A trip to La Real will be emotional as Alonso lands back in San Sebastian after emerging through their youth ranks, playing over 100 games for the first team and starting his coaching journey with the reserve team.

Alonso was plucked from La Real as one of Europe’s highest rated coaches and led Bayer Leverkusen to a first-ever Bundesliga title before completing his return to Madrid summer.

The challenge for Alonso is to bring Real Madrid back into contention, after failing to win a trophy under Ancelotti, and his early signs look positive.

Image via JESUS ALVAREZ ORIHUELA/Diario AS

There has also been a change on the bench at Real Sociedad, with Alonso’s replacement as B team boss Sergio Francisco stepping up, to come in as Imanol Alguacil’s replacement.

The pair know each other well from their crossover in the La Real coaching set up pathway and the new man in charge of the hosts has highlighted the impact Alonso has already made.

“It was a pleasure to share a dressing room with him, and we spent three years together at Zubieta, where he was the coach of Sanse and I was the coach of Eibar C. We shared many things, we’ve had a very good relationship,” as per Marca.

“Xabi has changed things. You can see that Real Madrid want the ball more, they’re more combinative, more aggressive in pressing after losing possession.

“They can sink opponents in their own half, maybe not with as many scoring chances, but with the feeling of being dominated. I feel like it’s a Real Madrid with a bit more balance.”

Donovan Jackson not satisfied despite impressive debut with Vikings

As rookie left guard Donovan Jackson got acclimated to the NFL, it appears that consistently going up against a pair of dominant defenders this summer served him well.

Though there were many times throughout training camp that Jackson struggled in the trenches, maybe not enough was made about the fact that he was often going up against either defensive tackle Jonathan Allen or fellow defensive tackle Javon Hargrave.

If his performance against the Chicago Bears on Monday night at Soldier Field was any indication, Jackson should be able to hold his own from the onset. He garnered a 88.1 pass blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus, to go along with a 66.9 run blocking grade.

It was everything the Vikings could’ve hoped for after selecting him in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

“There was a lot to really build off of,” head coach Kevin O’Connell said. “That was really encouraging.”

The assessment from Jackson wasn’t quite as glowing.

“Not quite to the standard I need to be at,” Jackson said. “There were a lot of stuff that I need to clean up. That makes it more exciting for me in a way. I know there’s still more to improve upon.”

The showing from Jackson was even more impressive when considering that Jackson didn’t have star left tackle Christian Darrisaw by his side. Though the Bears were attacking replacement left tackle Justin Skule seemingly on every snap, Jackson continued to stand his ground.

“He played amazing,” Darrisaw said. “I’ve seen the whole progression from the spring to the summer. He’s been playing really well, so I knew that type of game was coming. The sky is the limit for him.”

It was a similar tone from right tackle Brian O’Neill as he reflected on Jackson’s ability to rise to the occasion.

“I thought he did a really good job,” O’Neill said. “He was super poised. The moment definitely wasn’t too big for him. It was about what I expected, to be honest, based on everything that I’ve seen from him so far.”

The next step for Jackson will be following it with another standout effort against the Falcons on Sunday night at U.S. Bank Stadium.

“The challenge for him will be to be able to do it again,” O’Neill said. “He’s got to keep his body healthy and have that same game over and over and over for hopefully 15 years.”

It helps that Jackson doesn’t plan on letting complacency set in at any point. That’s not in his nature.

“I’m never really satisfied with my play,” Jackson said. “Regardless of how well I play, in my eyes, I always find little things I can improve upon.”

Briefly

After listing Darrisaw (knee) as questionable last week, the Vikings have ruled him out this week. Asked for details on the decision, O’Connell emphasized that Darrisaw hasn’t had a setback in the recovery process.

Meanwhile, edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel (concussion) and cornerback Jeff Okudah (concussion) have also been ruled, and safety Harrison Smith (illness) and linebacker Austin Keys (groin) are being listed as questionable.

Kevin Dotson set to play for Rams, Steve Avila listed as doubtful

Both of the Rams’ starting guards came out of Week 1 with sprained ankles that left them week-to-week, but they took different paths over the course of the week.

Right guard Kevin Dotson didn’t practice on Wednesday and then moved from limited to full participation over the last two days. He has no injury designation and is set to play against the Titans.

Left guard Steve Avila did not practice at all this week and is set to miss the game after being listed as doubtful. Rams head coach Sean McVay said on Friday that the team is still working out who would start in Avila’s place.

Tight end Colby Parkinson (shoulder) is also listed as doubtful. Tyler Higbee, Davis Allen, and Terrance Ferguson are the team’s other tight ends.

Giants’ Andrew Thomas doubtful, Wan’Dale Robinson questionable for Week 2 vs. Dallas

The Giants could be without two key pieces on offense for their Week 2 matchup with the Cowboys.

Big Blue has officially listed All-Pro LT Andrew Thomas as doubtful following their final practice of the week.

Thomas was able to take a big step forward this week, participating in back-to-back practices in limited fashion, but it appears he still isn’t ready to make his debut.

His absence certainly was felt in the season opener in Washington.

Additionally, WR WanDale Robinson is being listed as questionable.

Robinson suffered an ankle injury on a kickoff  during the ugly Week 1 loss.

If he is forced to miss any time it would be a big blow to this offense, as the shifty receiver was a solid security blanket for Russell Wilson, hauling in six receptions for 55 yards.

Camp standout Beaux Collins would work his way into the mix if Robinson is out.

On a positive note, both Malik Nabers (back) and Darius Slayton (groin) have been left off the injury report, meaning they are officially good to go.
