Fans of the Boston Celtics were ready to trade former Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons for the first playoff-ready big man they could find at the start of the 2025-26 NBA regular season. But after seeing what the Florida native can do for the Celtics now that he knows where he fits on the team on both ends of the court, Boston fans are starting to have second thoughts about moving on from Simons at the 2026 NBA trade deadline.
And for good reason, given he has been pulling all of this off despite constantly finding himself involved in trade rumors and proposals so far this season, a fact pointed out by Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla after Boston’s 125-117 home win over the Toronto Raptors. “We can’t do anything other than do our job every single day,” explained the Celtics coach.
“Since day one, he’s done a great job controlling what he can control, the most important thing,” added Mazzulla. “Every night, he gets better and better.”
“I thought he had a couple of great rebounds for us,” said Mazzulla. “I thought his defense was good in the second half. The most important thing is just doing your job every night. He takes a ton of pride in that he’s competing at a high level.”
“I love the role that he’s in, because he comes in and is just another guy that can play make for us, that can score for us. I like the pride he takes in his defense. He wants to get better every night.”
