NASCAR Race Today: Winners, Losers from Autotrader 400 at EchoPark

Mady Mertens-Imagn Images

EchoPark Speedway hosted the second points race of the 2026 NASCAR season for the Cup Series on Sunday, with Atlanta delivering another great race. With a winner declared, we’re looking back at what happened during Sunday’s race for some of the top drivers.

Let’s dive into our winners and losers from the NASCAR race today at the EchoPark Speedway, with key takeaways and standouts from the Autotrader 400.

Winner: Tyler Reddick

Mady Mertens-Imagn Images

Tyler Reddick is the first driver in NASCAR Cup Series history to win the first two races of the season. Even with front-end damage to the car, which the broadcast crew thought would give him no chance at winning, Reddick worked his way from the middle of the pack after sustaining damage in the Denny Hamlin crash to be in the top four when overtime began. Then, when Bubba Wallace moved up to try and get into the top lane, Reddick took advantage of his teammate’s mistake and sped his way off to victory. Heading into COTA, Reddick has a 40-point lead over his teammate in second place.

Loser: Kyle Larson

Nadia Zomorodian / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

What was he thinking? Heading into the final turn of Stage 2, Kyle Larson came all the way down from the top with Shane van Gisbergen already there and ran right into him. The contact turned the No. 5 car around and sent it up slamming into the wall for race-ending damage. The wreck falls squarely on Larson’s shoulders and the move was completely reckless with no upside since he was too far back of Bubba Wallace and William Byron to win the stage. Trying to fight for a few points, Larson cost himself double-digit points. Credit to Larson, though, he at least took full accountability in the post-wreck interview…unlike someone.

Winner: Austin Cindric

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Because qualifying got rained out on Saturday, Austin Cindric’s poor showing at Daytona caused him to start the NASCAR race today in 30th. Credit to Cindric and the No. 2 team, as he had the fastest car in Stage 1 and it showed as he worked his way to the front of the field. Fighting off Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson at the finish, Cindric won Stage 1 and picked up 10 much-needed points. Given he got caught up in a late-race wreck that ruined his finishing position (26th), those 10 points were even more crucial today.

Loser: Kyle Busch

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Kyle Busch was already going to be a loser on this list for the Autotrader 400 after wrecking out, finishing the day with single-digit points. He only added to that by suggesting in his interview outside the care center that Noah Gragson was to blame. Busch, who now hasn’t won a Cup Series race in 94 consecutive starts, tried to move up the racetrack quickly into a tight hole, and his nose lifted. That’s why, when Gragson made only light contact as the No. 8 came back down, Busch got loose and crashed. Gragson wasn’t to blame for what happened, but it seems like Busch wanted to point fingers.

Winner: Bubba Wallace

Mike Dinovo-Imagn Images

Make it consecutive races to start the season with a Stage 2 win for Bubba Wallace. Now, he wouldn’t have had it in the NASCAR race today in Atlanta if not for Kyle Larson’s wreck, but all that matters are the 10 points and a Cup Series-leading two stage wins through two races. Wallace secured 19 stage points on Sunday and has come out of these two superspeedways with two outstanding points days. The No. 23 seemed like a safe bet to make The Chase this season under the 16-driver format, and he’s an even stronger bet now.

Loser: Ty Gibbs

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

When’s the talent worthy of driving for a top-flight team going to show up for Ty Gibbs? After finishing 23rd in the Daytona 500, three spots worse than his starting position, the No. 54 again finished behind its starting spot when the race began. Early in Stage 2, Gibbs tried to cut down from the top to get ahead of Josh Berry — but he was never clear. Unfortunately, Gibbs not only took himself out but also collected Berry in the process. He’ll now head to COTA near the bottom of the standings.

Winner: 23XI Racing

Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn Images

Evidently beating NASCAR in court wasn’t enough for 23XI Racing. Michael Jordan got that familiar sweet taste of victory on the big stage and it’s carried over into the 2026 season. 23XI’s top two drivers lead the Cup Series in points right now and even Riley Herbst (23rd) is doing reasonably well. It feels like a lock at this point that 23XI will have Reddick and Wallace in The Chase. At this rate, the team might have a regular-season champion for the second time in three years.

Loser: Denny Hamlin

Mady Mertens-Imagn Images

That’s twice now in February that Denny Hamlin has been near the front of the field in the final stage when he’s been involved in a wreck. After reporting that his No. 11 car was loose, Joey Logano’s No. 22 got tight, the wheel locked and he moved up into Hamlin’s lane. When Hamlin tried to correct, his car wiggled into the wall and then spun into the middle of the field. The one saving grace for Hamlin is that wrecks in the final laps allowed him to finish the day in 13th, but he’s still 27th in points right now.

Winner: Zane Smith

Mady Mertens-Imagn Images

Zane Smith is off to the best start of his young Cup Series career. A week after he finished sixth in the Daytona 500, snagging 41 points and his first Cup stage win, Smith proved that was no fluke on Sunday. He avoided the major wrecks, allowing him to finish seven in the Autotrader 400. After recording five top-10 finishes in 2025 across 36 races, Smith already has two in the first two races of the season.

What is Patriots TE Austin Hooper's estimated value in free agency?

Market value projections show New England Patriots tight end Austin Hooper to be a less valuable player in 2026.

Hooper signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Patriots in 2025. That usurped the one-year, $3.1 million contract he signed with New England in 2024. From 2020-23, Hooper was paid handsomely. The 31-year-old agreed to a four-year, $42 million deal to join the Cleveland Browns in 2020. Hooper signed two subsequent one-year deals with the Tennessee Titans in 2022, followed by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 after being released by the Browns in 2022. Now, he’s in line to be an unrestricted free agent this winter.

Spotrac currently has Hooper’s market value estimated at $2.4 million annually. That is less than half of what he earned on his one-year deal last year.

Hooper’s receiving yards went from 476 in 2024 to 263 in 2025. The Stanford product also scored three touchdowns in 2024 compared to two last season.

With a decreased workload last season, the Patriots felt it necessary to throw the ball Hooper’s way 33 fewer times in 2025 (26) than they did in 2024 (59). His diminished productivity has contributed to his lower valuation.

Official race results from 2026 Atlanta NASCAR Cup race

Motorsport photo

Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta featured a record number of lead changes with over a dozen different drivers taking a turn out front.

For the first time since 2009, a driver opened the season with back-to-back wins as Tyler Reddick surged ahead in double overtime to win the race. It was an improbable comeback after being collected in a mid-race wreck and losing his right-front fender.

Reddick led a 1-2 for Toyota as Chase Briscoe finished second, followed by Ross Chastain, Carson Hocevar, and Daniel Suarez. Shane van Gisbergen also rebounded from two spins to secure his career-best oval finish in the Cup Series.

Michael Jordan owned 23XI Racing goes back-to-back to start 2026 NASCAR season

Michael Jordan owned 23XI Racing goes back-to-back to start 2026 NASCAR season originally appeared on The Sporting News.
Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

Tyler Reddick delivered another early-season statement Sunday, giving Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing its second consecutive victory to open the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season.

Reddick surged to the front in overtime to win the Autotrader 400 at EchoPark Speedway, formerly known as Atlanta Motor Speedway. The victory came one week after he captured the Daytona 500, making him the sixth driver in Cup Series history to start a season with back-to-back wins and the first since Matt Kenseth in 2009.

Reddick’s latest triumph did not come easy.

After inclement weather canceled qualifying, the race unfolded with its usual Atlanta drama. Overtime was needed — twice. On the first attempt, Carson Hocevar aggressively lined up behind Christopher Bell, telling his spotter he planned to push Bell regardless of damage. The field reset after chaos ensued.

On the second overtime restart, Bubba Wallace jumped to the lead and appeared to deliver 23XI Racing a 1-2 finish. Wallace led more than 40 laps and controlled the outside lane, but a late squeeze entering the white-flag lap shuffled him backward. Wallace and Hocevar battled each other instead of protecting their lines, eliminating both from contention. Wallace ultimately finished eighth.

Reddick methodically worked the bottom lane with help from Chase Briscoe despite carrying right-front damage in the closing segment. He slipped inside Wallace and held firm through the final corners to claim his first career Atlanta victory.

Jordan celebrated on pit road as 23XI Racing continued its early dominance.

The rebranded Autotrader 400 added another chapter to Atlanta’s recent string of classics, reinforcing that even with a new name and fresh look but the same racing.

No excuses: Jamal Musiala focused on progress at Bayern Munich

MUNICH, GERMANY – FEBRUARY 21: Jamal Musiala of FC Bayern Muenchen in duel during the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern München and Eintracht Frankfurt at Allianz Arena on February 21, 2026 in Munich, Germany. (Photo by F. Noever/FC Bayern via Getty Images) | FC Bayern via Getty Images

Bayern Munich fan favorite Jamal Musiala has been out of the game for a long time, or at least, he was, until he hit the ground running for the club again recently. He has never been one to hide behind excuses. And even now, as he continues his return from injury, that mindset has not changed.

Speaking after Bayern’s game against Frankfurt in an interview captures by @iMiaSanMia, the 21-year-old admitted he is still searching for full rhythm. He ran hard, had his moments, and is taking things step by step. For Musiala, it is simple: no excuses. If he plays badly, he owns it. When he is on the pitch, he believes he has to deliver.

“For me, it’s better to ease back into it a bit more slowly and hopefully be better by the end of the season. That’s why I’m happy with the progress I’m making now. I’m doing a lot of extra training sessions so my foot always feels fresher. Some days it’s a bit stiff. But like I said: I don’t want any excuses; when I’m on the pitch, I have to perform and deliver,” he said. Despite all his efforts, however, there are still subconscious moments, he says, when hesitation creeps in. But with each match, the confidence grows.

“But from game to game, I have more and more confidence in my foot. I see the steps forward I’m taking week by week. I wish everything would go faster, but I’ve also learned patience with this injury.”

For Bayern, that patience could prove vital. Because a fully confident Musiala changes everything.

Arizona Diamondbacks 9, Los Angeles Angels 10

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – MARCH 10: A general view of the stadium during the sixth inning of the Spring Training game between the San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on March 10, 2023 in Scottsdale, Arizona. (Photo by John E. Moore III/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Record: 1-2. Change on 2025: +1. 5-inning record: 0-3

Kohl Drake got the start, and it was a bit bumpy initially, as he walked the first two batters he faced. One of those came around to score, but Drake settled down nicely. He retired the next six men he faced, including strikeouts of established major-leaguers Travis D’Arnaud and Trey Mancini in the second. Arizona then got scoreless innings from two men who are competing for spots in the major-league bullpen, in Yilber Diaz and Kade Stroud, the latter disposing of the Angels on six pitches with a trio of groundouts. The D-backs tied things in the fourth, on a Nolan Arenado RBI double, but Junior Fernandez allowed the visitors back in front in the fifth, giving up two hits and a walk.

The sixth inning was… long and interesting. The Angels broke out with a four-run top half, all the runs being charged to Landon Sims while he retired two batters. But facing a 6-1 deficit, the Diamondbacks struck back in no uncertain fashion, putting up six runs in their half. Alek Thomas had a two-run double, and Jorge Barrosa later capped off the frame with a two-run homer, giving Arizona a 7-6 lead. Wholesale changes followed for Arizona, and they were unable to keep Los Angeles off the board in any inning after the fourth. A Jose Fernandez triple and LuJames Groover groundout made things interesting, but the D-backs came up just short.

Geraldo Perdomo reached base safely all three times he was up, on two singles and a walk, with Fernandez and Thomas each notching a hit and a base on balls. Tomorrow will see the Diamondbacks leave Salt River Fields for the first time this spring, heading past SnakePit Towers on their way to Goodyear, where they will take on the Guardians. Taylor Clarke will get the start for our boys, with Juans Morillo and Burgos among those expected to come out of the bullpen thereafter. It will be another 1:05 pm start.

‘It’s a big deal’ – Jordan Spieth reveals the ‘weapon’ he’s finally got back after the Genesis Invitational

Photo by Tracy Wilcox/PGA TOUR via Getty ImagesPhoto by Ken Murray/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

Jordan Spieth finally regains confidence with the putter

“Yeah, looking at my spot, looking up, looking at the hole… my spot seems to be a weapon that I’ve got back, which is really nice because I feel solid whether it’s breaking or straight, anything in shorter range.

“Then that frees you up as you start to expand. So yeah, all three weeks were really good with the putter.

“Cameron had me on a setup adjustment in the couple of days that weren’t frozen in Dallas between Hawaii and Phoenix. There’s definitely some work that went into it. There was a change, and it’s been really good for me.

“I didn’t feel like I stroked it quite as well yesterday and today as I did all last week and the first two rounds. So I’ve got to stay on top of it. It’s a big deal.”

Jordan Spieth looks ahead to Arnold Palmer Invitational

“So yeah, I feel very confident. I like the stretch that’s coming up. I’m glad to be going back to Bay Hill and fortunate they gave me a spot.

“I don’t ever want to use an exemption again, and I was hoping not to have to use that one, but I have a good history there, and I feel like I got some momentum.

“And a good weather week in Dallas, which is nice.”

Littler wins in Poland despite Van Veen nine-darter

Luke Littler hit seven 180s and averaged just over 108 to beat Gian van Veen in the final [Getty Images]

Luke Littler won the Poland Darts Open title despite a nine-dart finish in the final from Gian van Veen.

World championLittler was in devastating form as he hit seven 180s on his way to an 8-4 victory and the £35,000 first prize.

Van Veen, who also lost to Littler in the final of the World Championship, hit his first ever televised nine-darter but it was in vain as the Briton averaged just over 108 to overcome the Dutchman.

Victory sees Littler become the inaugural champion at the tournament which is the first European Tour event to be held in Poland.

“It’s been a very good weekend for myself,” said Littler, who won his fifth European Tour title.

“I felt really good throughout the tournament. In the first three weeks of the Premier League I’ve not felt the best, so I definitely needed this one.

“I wanted to come here and win the title and that’s what I’ve done. Most importantly it was about playing well, getting that average up and hitting my doubles.”

Littler beat Ross Smith, Josh Rock and Chris Dobey on Sunday to make the final, while Van Veen got past Nathan Aspinall, Wessel Nijman and world number two Luke Humphries.

Van Veen took control of the match to go 3-2 up in the fifth leg when two 180s were followed up by a 141 finish in a perfect nine-dart leg.

The moment sparked Littler into life, however, who won the next four legs to take a 6-3 lead.

Van Veen showed some resistance to claw a leg back, but Littler regained his composure to win the next two legs in just 28 darts to seal an 8-4 victory.

The European Tour will continue with the European Darts Trophy on 13 March as Aspinall bids to retain his crown in Gottingen.

Another big inning fuels Dodgers’ win over Padres

PEORIA, ARIZONA – FEBRUARY 22: Kyle Tucker #23 of the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrates with Will Smith #16 after scoring on a double hit by Nick Senzel #15 against the San Diego Padres during the third inning of a spring training game at Peoria Stadium on February 22, 2026 in Peoria, Arizona. (Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images) | Getty Images

Big innings have defined the first weekend of Dodgers spring training games so far. Sunday included a four-run third inning that fueled a 5-1 win over the San Diego Padres in Peoria.

Will Smith got the scoring started with an RBI single in the third inning, one of his two hits, and non-roster infielder Nick Senzel hit a two-run double to score both Smith and newcomer Kyle Tucker in his Dodgers debut. Senzel doubled twice against San Diego.

— SportsNet LA (@SportsNetLA) February 22, 2026

Josue De Paula added an RBI single in the ninth inning to cap the scoring, but some trouble getting to a few balls in and around left field.

Scoring on Sunday wasn’t as prevalent as Saturday in Tempe, when the Dodgers had innings of three, six, and four runs in a rout of the Angels. But then again, they didn’t need much offense on Sunday, thanks to a bevy of arms throttling the Padres bats.

Jackson Ferris started and worked around a walk and single for a scoreless first inning. Chris Campos struck out two in a perfect third inning.

Will Klein pitched a clean, 10-pitch second inning, one of two Dodgers on the 40-man roster to pitch in this one.

Ronan Kopp’s first spring training game as a member of big league camp came on the anniversary of his first major league spring training game last year. The left-hander appeared in two games up from the minor league side of camp last spring, both in February. This time, after getting added to the 40-man roster in November, Kopp on Sunday allowed a two-out double then committed a throwing error on what would have been an inning-ending groundout in the eighth.

That was the only run allowed by the Dodgers all game. In all, nine different Dodgers pitchers combined to allow five hits and three walks in the win, with just the one unearned run.

Up next

After two road games, the Dodgers play on their home field of Camelback Ranch with a game against the Seattle Mariners on Monday (12:05 p.m. PT, SportsNet LA). Landon Knack starts for the Dodgers, with Logan Gilbert on the mound for Seattle.
