Arokodare & Mundle latest players to be racially abused

Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare and Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle have become the latest Premier League players to be sent racist abuse on social media this weekend.

Both players were targeted following Sunday’s matches and it comes a day after Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri and Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana were both targeted with racist abuse on Instagram after their sides drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.

Wolves said they were “disgusted” after Arokodare was sent abuse by “multiple perpetrators” following his side’s 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace and they condemned the “abhorrent and unlawful behaviour in the strongest possible terms”.

Both the Nigeria international and Wolves shared a number of screenshots of private messages the 25-year-old received after the game in which he had a first-half penalty saved, before Evann Guessand scored an injury-time Palace winner.

“It’s still unbelievable to me that we’re playing in a time where people have so much freedom to communicate such racism without any consequences,” wrote Arokodare on his Instagram story.

“These individuals should have no place in our game and collectively we have to take action to punish everyone who taints the sport like this, no matter who they are.”

In a statement, Wolves added: “Tolu has our full and unwavering support. No player should be subjected to such hatred simply for doing their job.

“We stand firmly alongside him, and alongside all footballers who are forced to endure this abuse from anonymous accounts acting with apparent impunity.

Sunderland said they are “appalled by the vile” abuse Mundle received after his substitute appearance in the 3-1 home defeat by Fulham.

“The abhorrent behaviour displayed by multiple individuals is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the club under any circumstances.

“These individuals do not represent Sunderland AFC, our values, or our community – and they are not welcome on Wearside.”

The Sunderland Echo reported the 22-year-old English forward has since deleted his Instagram account.

In February 2025 while playing in the Championship for the Black Cats, Mundle shared a discriminatory post sent to him on his Instagram account.

Wolves and Sunderland said they are working with the relevant authorities and online platforms to identify those responsible.

The Premier League condemned the abuse and said there are “serious consequences for anybody found guilty of discrimination and we will offer our full support with their investigations”, which can include club bans and legal prosecution.

‘Social media companies must do more’

On Saturday, Frenchman Fofana wrote “2026, it’s still the same thing, nothing changes. These people are never punished.

“You create big campaigns against racism, but nobody actually does anything.”

Tunisia international Mejbri, 23, called on people to “educate yourself and your kids”.

These latest incidences of racist abuse towards players follow the alleged racial abuse of Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr during last week’s Champions League knockout round play-off tie at Benfica, which Uefa is investigating.

In a statement earlier on Sunday, anti-discrimination group Kick It Out said: “Players are standing up to discrimination, and we’ve had record reports to Kick It Out from across football this season, but we recognise the frustration in how it continues to fester online.

“Words matter, but actions are more important. Football is working together to tackle this issue alongside the UK Football Policing Unit and Ofcom, but social media companies must do more to offer protections to players and help improve accountability when incidents occur.

“Those who face this disgusting abuse must always be the priority.”

Responding to the Fofana and Mejbri abuse, a spokesperson for Meta told BBC Sport: “No-one should be subjected to racist abuse, and we remove this content when we find it.

“No one thing will stop racist behaviour overnight, but we’ll continue working to protect our community from abuse and co-operate with police investigations.”

Last November, a BBC investigation found more than 2,000 extremely abusive social media posts – including death and rape threats – were sent about managers and players in the Premier League and Women’s Super League in a single weekend.

The season-opening Premier League game between Liverpool and Bournemouth last August was stopped in the first half after then-Cherries forward Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by someone in the Anfield crowd.

A Liverpool man has denied the abuse and his trial is scheduled to take place in April.

In January, Newcastle United said they had contacted the police after midfielder Joe Willock was the subject of “disgusting” racial abuse and “deeply disturbing threats” on social media.

Tottenham forward Mathys Tel was also the subject of racist abuse on social media after being one of two Spurs players to miss in their Super Cup penalty shootout defeat by Paris St-Germain in August.

England defender Jess Carter was another target of racist abuse during Euro 2025 in July.

And England internationals Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka were all subjected to racism in the aftermath of the Euro 2020 final, which the Three Lions lost to Italy in a penalty shootout.

Hawai’i shuts down Wichita State bats on Les Murakami Hall of Fame Night

Starting pitcher Hekili Robello tossed nine strikeouts in six innings in the Rainbow Warriors’ win.

HONOLULU – You’ve got to put on a show with Les and the legends in the house.

Behind an electrifying performance from the pitching staff and a jolt of offense from the jump, the University of Hawai’i baseball team held up its end of the bargain on Les Murakami Hall of Fame Night with a 4-2 win over storied rival Wichita State (4-2) on Friday evening.Junior right-hander Hekili Robello (2-0) picked up his second win in as many starts this season, spinning 6.0 innings of two-run ball (1 ER) while allowing four hits, walking one and striking out nine.

“He was, again, lights out,” head coach Rich Hill said of Robello’s second straight sweet six-inning showing. “You notice he’s in an 0-2 count almost all the time. So you talk about first pitch strikes, mixing the slider and then he’s also got a changeup … he just fills up the zone. It’s a unique [arm slot], guys have a hard time with it.”The Big Island fireballer turned it over to the bullpen for the final three frames, watching as Tsubasa Tomii, Saul Soto and John Alkire II combined for 3.0 innings of scoreless work to lock down the win. The trio of relievers allowed two total baserunners and only one hit in their action on Friday, combining for 42 pitches total to record the final nine outs.Hawai’i (5-1) did all of its scoring in the opening inning, posting a four-spot in their first chance of the night again Shockers RHP Brady Hamilton.

The first four batters reached base for the Rainbow Warriors before Evan Rolbiecki’s RBI groundout mercifully gave the first out of the bottom of the 1st for Wichita State. Kamana Nahaku helped the Rainbow Warriors tack on two more runs before the end of the first inning, roping a single between the shortstop and third baseman to score Kody Watanabe and Jake Redding. Tate Shimao tried to advance from first to third on the single but was gunned down for the final out of the frame.

Kamana Nahaku’s 2 RBI single in the bottom of the first inning brought home the final runs of the night for Hawai’i.

Wichita State responded in the top of the 2nd with the help of a couple Hawai’i miscues, loading the bases with a leadoff single, a walk and an E4 before Kaleb Duncan tapped an RBI single into right to get the Shockers on the board and keep the bases juiced with nobody out.An RBI groundout by Zeb Henry plated the second run for Wichita State, but more importantly helped Hekili Robello settle back in for the Rainbow Warriors. The junior right-hander bounced back to get Jaden Gustafson to pop out to the infield and struck out Jayson Jones to end the threat from the Shockers with UH still leading, 4-2.

“He’s just got ice in his veins, you know, the guts of a burglar,” Hill said of his starter’s resolve to get out of the 2nd-inning jam. “This environment can overwhelm some people … I mean, that’s [Rainbow Baseball] legends, that’s Coach Murakami, Coach Gene Stevenson. They’ve got the Hall of Fame blue jackets out here, a packed house screaming and he just went out there like it was another day at the park in Hilo. It was really fun to see. He’s got a great future.”

Robello would retire 11 Wichita batters in a row after allowing the two runs, finally seeing another Shocker reach base with two down in the bottom of the 5th when Jayson Jones smacked a single into right, but the UH starter got MJ Sweeney to ground out to second base the very next at-bat to end the frame. The Hilo High product struck out the side in the top of the sixth, working around Owen Washburn’s one-out double to hand over a multi-run cushion to the ‘Bows bullpen.

Tomii twirled a scoreless 7th frame in his fourth outing of the young season, striking out one while showing off his funky spinning offspeed stuff for the fans in attendance. New Mexico State transfer Saul Soto spun a 1-2-3 inning in the 8th, delighting the crowd with a backwards K in his lone stanza of work.

Jack Hughes reveals crazy dream before winning USA Olympic gold medal

Team USA men’s hockey team won its first gold medal in 46 years on Sunday. They clashed against Canada in the final game of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games tournament after dominating Slovakia in the semifinals (6-2).

Canada presented a much harder challenge. Team USA needed overtime to beat their neighbors, as the Canadians suffocated the defense for most of the third quarter. Matt Boldy gave the U.S. the lead at 6:00 in the first period.

Cale Makar tied the game for Canada at 38:16 in the second period. Jack Hughes ultimately gave his team the win and the gold medal to make history. After the game ended, his brother Quinn revealed a conversation with Jack, where he told him what would happen hours later.

“At 12:30 (am) I went over to him (Jack Hughes) and said, ‘You up?’ And he said, ‘Yeah… Dreaming about scoring the game-winner.’”

T20 World Cup: India's winning streak ends in humiliation; lose by 76 runs to South Africa

TimesofIndia.com in Ahmedabad: The first game of India’s Super Eight campaign provided a rude reality check as they were completely outplayed by South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing the 188-run target, the famed batting line-up never got going and succumbed to the big-game pressure in front of over 90,000 people. The run-chase lacked application, intent, and discipline. Whatever could go wrong, went wrong for Suryakumar Yadav & Co as they lost the fixture by a heavy 76-run margin.

Questionable shot selection, lack of partnerships, and some fine bowling by South Africa led to the hosts’ downfall, ending their unbeaten 12-match streak in T20I World Cups. For a side that had dominated the format since winning the title in the Caribbean in 2024, Sunday’s showing, particularly the batting, was nothing short of an embarrassment. The team, which effortlessly posted huge scores and breezed past massive totals, managed only 57 at the half-way mark of the run-chase and had half their side cooling their heels in the dugout.

Concerning signs were apparent in the group stage too, but the bowlers continued to find a way and get the job done. However, the thin cracks got exposed when they were asked to chase. The pressure of the big stage clearly overwhelmed the batting as Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma played some very ordinary shots. Abhishek sighed with relief when he scored his first run of the tournament, courtesy of a boundary, but he never looked at ease during his stay in the middle. The left-hander looked very short on confidence, and so did India’s designated No.3 Tilak Varma.

Tilak has been scrutinised for his poor strike rate, and while he has enjoyed the backing of the selectors, coaches and team leadership, his performances aren’t inspiring much confidence. India tried to shake things up by promoting Washington Sundar up the order but even that backfired, just like his overall selection for this game ahead of the experienced Axar Patel. India’s vice-captain was on the bench for the second match in a row, and his absence was dearly felt with both bat and ball.

Shivam Dube fought a lone battle and minimised the net run-rate damage but the writing was clearly on the wall, leaving only mere formalities before South Africa sealed the comprehensive win. Marco Jansen & Co. combined to completely dominate the hosts and their smart use of the pitch, and conditions, helped them make a statement.

Bumrah and the rest

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh combined to keep the Proteas under the 200-run mark. The innings can be divided into three phases. India dominated the powerplay, taking three wickets. South Africa rebuilt with David Miller and Dewald Brevis, but India seized control again between overs 16 and 19.

In the final four overs, the Aiden Markram-led unit scored 23 runs and lost three wickets, undoing the middle-phase efforts of Miller and Brevis, who combined to put together 97 runs. They also lost the same number of wickets in the powerplay but had a plan for the spin threat that was coming their way. The left-right combination targeted Varun Chakravarthy and never allowed India’s X-factor to settle down on a pitch that offered little for spin.

In his first two overs, the World No.1 T20I bowler leaked 28 runs and Miller looked dangerous in front of the capacity crowd. From the moment he walked out to bat in the fourth over, the left-hander operated with calculated intent. He hit the ball where it was meant to be hit and didn’t retreat after the early wickets. The presence of a busy Brevis at the other end gave the innings the much-needed impetus, and the two put on a breezy 97-run stand off just 50 deliveries.

When they were batting, a total of 200+ seemed very achievable, but India did well to pull things back in the final phase. Bumrah was at his menacing best in both the powerplay and the death overs. His last two overs conceded only 8 runs and another wicket added to his match tally made him India’s most successful bowler in T20I World Cup history.

Arshdeep sustained pressure from the other end with just a 7-run 18th over but the 20th over, bowled by Hardik, swayed momentum in South Africa’s favour. Tristan Stubbs hit back-to-back sixes off the final two deliveries to end the innings emphatically at 187/7. T20I cricket is all about riding the momentum when it is on your side. South Africa did that with the bat in the final over and then the bowlers later rode on it to outplay India in their first Super Eight clash.

Brief Scores:

South Africa: 187 for 7 in 20 overs (David Miller 63, Dewald Brevis 45, Tristan Stubbs 44; Jasprit Bumrah 3/15, Arshdeep Singh 2/28).

India: 111 all out in 18.5 overs (Shivam Dube 42; Marco Jansen 4/22, Keshav Maharaj 3/24, Corbin Bosch 2/12).

Cristante talks scoring vs Cremonese, Top 4 race: “Now is the final sprint. The games will count double.”

Roma captain Bryan Cristante was on the score sheet tonight as his headed effort opened the scoreline for Roma’s 3-0 win over Cremonese.

After the match, Cristante spoke to reporters.

“We knew it was a very important match, it didn’t seem that way at the beginning, but all in all, even looking at the results on Sunday, it was important to bring it home.”

“It wasn’t easy, in short, we were defending well, it was important to unlock the score.”

“We’re doing well, we’re growing, we’re having a great season so far, but we know that now is the time to decide, now are the points, now are the games that count double. So what we’ve done so far is worth little, the important thing is to position ourselves there.”

“Now is the final sprint,” he concluded.

PSG’s Lucas Chevalier at serious risk of losing out on World Cup spot with France

PSG’s Lucas Chevalier at serious risk of losing out on World Cup spot with France

PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier (24) is at serious risk of losing out on a spot in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad for France, according to L’EquipeThe former Lille goalkeeper is no longer the undisputed starter between the PSG sticks for a while now. But his playing time with the Champions League winners has drastically decreased recently with Matvey Safonov having featured for every PSG games since February 1st.

PSG head coach Luis Enrique rotated his side for Saturday’s Ligue 1 game against bottom-placed Metz (3-0), but once again, Chevalier was overlooked with Safonov given the nod. L’Equipe understands that Chevalier’s situation has sent alarm bells ringing within France’s coaching set-up.

The outlet adds that, if Chevalier does not swing the situation in his favour, he has very little chance of being called up for France’s international break in March, when Les Bleus will fly out to the USA. It’s also unlikely Deschamps calls up an out-of-rythm goalkeeper whose confidence has taken a hit for what would be his final tournament as France’s manager. This could explain why France’s goalkeeping coach Franck Raviot has elected to monitor Como’s Jean Butez and Lens’ Robin Risser, who have never been called up yet by Deschamps.

Liverpool finally make Cody Gakpo transfer decision

Liverpool finally make Cody Gakpo transfer decision

Cody Gakpo has been at the centre of attention for most Liverpool fans this season.

Last term, the Dutchman was competing against Luis Diaz to be seen as the Reds’ second-best attacker after Mohamed Salah but this season, things just haven’t clicked.

Whether that’s because he has no competition for his place in the team or whether it’s down to the lack of form shown by his other teammates, things just haven’t gone right for the Dutchman this term.

These poor performances have led to questions being asked about his future with Liverpool and Arne Slot seemingly coming to a decision about what to do with the former PSV man.

Last summer, Bayern Munich were deliberating whether to make a move for Gakpo or Diaz.

In the end, the Colombian was the player that Vincent Kompany chose to make a move for with his transfer working out rather well at the moment.

Diaz has been one of Bayern’s best players this term and, with how badly Gakpo has performed over the last few months, it seems like the Bundesliga giants made the right choice.

Talk of Bayern re-entering the race was starting to emerge but now, that doesn’t seem at all likely.

That is, according to an update from journalist Pete O’Rourke who said the following about Gakpo’s future while live on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast.

“I would be surprised (if Gakpo went to Bayern),” he said. “Obviously, last summer, it seemed as if it was a choice between Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz for Bayern Munich, as they wanted to bring in a new left-sided winger.

“They obviously went for Diaz and it’s been a massive success for the German club, Diaz has really hit the ground running for Bayern Munich.

“He’s become a key man for Vincent Kompany’s side, so you would imagine that he has that left-wing spot locked down.

“Gakpo obviously is a versatile player who can play anywhere across that front line as well, so I’m sure Bayern Munich would still have him on their list, but I don’t think it’ll be a priority for them right now.

“I don’t think Liverpool will be rushing Cody Gakpo out of the club either. They’re a bit short of attacking options on that left hand side.”

One of the biggest mistakes that Slot and Richard Hughes made last summer was the fact that they failed to sign a suitable replacement for Diaz.

Although Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz were expected to fill in on the left flank from time to time, due to things such as injuries, this hasn’t always been possible.

And, if we’re being honest, both Wirtz and Ekitike play better when they’re used in their natural positions which sort of defeats the purpose of using them on the left-wing.

This summer, several players are already being linked with an Anfield switch with most of their reported transfer targets being in defence.

However, if Slot wants to put up a good fight for each and every competition, he needs at least two world class players for every position and at the moment, Liverpool only really have one senior left-winger.

Times are tough at the moment but if the Anfield outfit don’t get their recruitment right in the upcoming summer transfer window, things could go from bad to worse in double quick time.

After securing João Neves' contract, PSG management moves to lock down Mayulu

After securing João Neves’ contract, PSG management moves to lock down Mayulu

PSG locks down its pillars: Neves extends, Mayulu negotiations underway

Mayulu / @x.com/Paris_Arabic/

The Paris Saint-Germain board is pushing forward with its strategy to secure both its established stars and its most promising young talents. Buoyed by last season’s silverware, the capital club is seeing its players’ market value soar and is acting swiftly to safeguard its prized assets.

With this in mind, PSG recently wrapped up the case of Portuguese midfielder João Neves, reaching an agreement to extend his contract until June 2030.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player has agreed to commit long-term, signing a new deal that comes with a pay rise. This information has also been confirmed by French daily Le Parisien.

Paris now opens the Mayulu file

But the Parisian club isn’t stopping there. According to Foot Mercato, management has begun talks with their young gem Senny Mayulu to also extend his contract through to 2030.

At 19 years old, Mayulu is considered one of the brightest prospects to come out of PSG’s academy. With outstanding technical skills and a real knack for making a difference in attack, he’s attracting growing interest across Europe.

Although his current deal runs until 2027, the PSG hierarchy wants to get ahead of the game and avoid any future pressure by quickly tying down his future.

Cristante and N’Dicka: ‘Roma ready for final sprint, points worth double’

Cristante and N’Dicka: ‘Roma ready for final sprint, points worth double’

Bryan Cristante and Evan N’Dicka warn Roma that ‘from now on the points are worth double’ in the race for a Champions League spot. ‘We must be ready for the final sprint.’

It took an hour to break Cremonese down at the Stadio Olimpico this evening, as the Giallorossi made set plays count, scoring from two corners.

Cristante nodded in the first, then flicked on the second for N’Dicka to finish it off from six yards.

Niccolò Pisilli completed the 3-0 rout late on, making the most of hard work from Donyell Malen to sweep into the far bottom corner.

“We knew considering the other results this weekend that it was a very important match for us,” Cristante told DAZN Italia.

Considering the assist was a back-heel flick, did he win the Serie A Man of the Match award for that or the goal?

“I think the goal was the best thing, as we needed to break the deadlock, but it was a good assist too.”

Gian Piero Gasperini said that Roma will have to fight to the very end for a top four finish and Champions League qualification.

“We’re in good shape, we are improving and doing really well so far, but from now on the points are worth double. We must be ready for the final sprint, we’ve achieved nothing yet,” agreed Cristante.

Roma knew that the other results this weekend were going their way, as Milan, Napoli and Juventus all lost, although Como and Atalanta have put themselves right back into the race for the top four.

It is an ideal position to be in, creating a four-point cushion from fifth-placed Juventus before they go head-to-head next weekend.

“We worked really hard together as a team, including the Svilar save, to keep a clean sheet,” N’Dicka told DAZN Italia.

“We’re ready, we won tonight, and hopefully we can do the same next week with Juve.”

That was Roma’s 12th Serie A clean sheet of the season, and they have the best defensive record overall, conceding only 16 goals.
