Cameroon vs Angola: The Indomitable Lions' starting eleven as they chase World Cup qualification

Cameroon vs Angola: The Indomitable Lions’ starting eleven as they chase World Cup qualification

Cameroon vs Angola

Cameroon are playing for their ticket to the 2026 World Cup this Monday against Angola. A victory is a must. The official line-ups for this high-stakes clash have been revealed.

Currently sitting second in Group D with 18 points, just two behind Cape Verde (20 points), Cameroon still have a shot at finishing top of the group. A win against Angola, coupled with either a draw or a shock defeat for Cape Verde against Eswatini, would send Cameroon to the summit.

To chase this qualification, Marc Brys has announced his starting line-up.

Cameroon: Onana, Tchatchoua, Castelletto, Nagida, Tolo, Anguissa, Baleba, Avom, Nkoudou, Etta Eyong, Mbeumo

Steelers, 49ers, Patriots, Bucs named possible trade fits for 5-time All-Pro receiver

Steelers, 49ers, Patriots, Bucs named possible trade fits for 5-time All-Pro receiver originally appeared on The Sporting News.
Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers could all be in the market for a wide receiver at the NFL trade deadline.

The 49ers and Bucs are both dealing with injuries. The Bucs might not have all three of their top receivers this week in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka, and Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings have missed multiple games in 2025, and Jennings admitted he’s playing through a laundry list of issues.

Adding to that, there is still no telling when the Niners will get Brandon Aiyuk back as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL and MCL.

The Steelers and Patriots are mostly healthy at wide receiver but could definitely use more help at the position. Pittsburgh doesn’t have a true No. 1 wide receiver behind DK Metcalf and New England could use a third receiver to supplement Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte.

One player to keep an eye on at the trade deadline is Baltimore Ravens receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was listed as a trade candidate by Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus.

Locker thinks the Patriots, 49ers, Steelers and Bucs could all be players for the five-time Pro Bowler who has amassed 178 receiving yards through six games.

Possible Fits: 49ers, Patriots, Steelers, Buccaneers

Although the Ravens entered play Sunday ranked 22nd in offensive EPA per play, Hopkins has assembled a bounce-back season. His 92.7 PFF receiving grade is the second-best among all receivers. On top of that, Hopkins has hauled in five of six contested targets and has yet to drop a pass.

Having already suited up for three teams over the last two years, Hopkins could soon call a fourth franchise home. San Francisco may pursue another receiver in light of persistent injuries at the position, while the Patriots — who rank seventh in team PFF receiving grade — could seek another field-stretching option for Drake Maye next to Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte.

The Ravens are now sitting at 1-5 after losing in Week 6, although things are looking up with Lamar Jackson expected to return from injury out of the bye.

The Ravens have two more games before the deadline hits to show they are capable of making a run, but if that doesn’t come to fruition, Baltimore could be a seller at the deadline.

Hopkins makes sense to move, as he’s 33 years old and doesn’t figure to be in the team’s long-term plans. The five-time All-Pro is also slated to be a free agent in 2026, so the Ravens should get something for him before he potentially leaves during the offseason.

Hopkins isn’t the same elite receiver he once was, but he would definitely be an upgrade for both Pittsburgh and New England. That said, it’s hard to imagine Baltimore trading him in the division.

Hopkins could also add some much-needed depth and insurance for both Tampa Bay’s and San Fran’s injury-plagued wide receivers rooms.

If we had to bet on one of the four times to acquire Hopkins, we’d go with the Pats. If not for the complication with the Steelers being in the Ravens’ division, we would’ve picked Pittsburgh.

Full-court sprints and inhalers: Grizzlies put their trust in Tuomas Iisalo to bring about a new era

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis coach Tuomas Iisalo told the Grizzlies as they left last spring to be ready to play faster when they returned.

Now they see just how fast Iisalo wants the Grizzlies moving.

“We all might need inhalers,” two-time All-Star Ja Morant said. ”You know what you need an inhaler for? That tells you everything you need to know.”

Iisalo didn’t get the chance over the last nine games of the regular season or through Memphis’ first-round loss to eventual NBA champ Oklahoma City to change up much for the Grizzlies. But they quickly took off his interim tag. The Grizzlies spent the summer retooling the roster around their pair of two-time All-Stars in Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr.

They traded Desmond Bane for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and four first-round draft picks. They brought back forward Santi Aldama, traded up in the draft for guard Cedric Coward at No. 11 and took guard Javon Small. Memphis brought in veterans like center Jock Landale and guard Ty Jerome.

“We’re trying to reach the highest level of the NBA, an NBA that’s changing in 2025 of the style of play and the build of a roster that you’re seeing reach the highest end outcomes,” general manager Zach Kleiman said.

Part of that included trusting Iisalo to take over after Memphis frittered away a top-tier seed in the Western Conference. They played their way to the No. 8 seed before being swept by the Thunder.

Morant said the Grizzlies spent the offseason working to be ready for what he called the toughest first day of training camp he’s had yet going into his seventh NBA season. The true test starts Oct. 22 when Memphis hosts New Orleans in the season opener.

“Do I think it can last a whole season?” Morant said. “Probably. Probably so if we just keep it up.”

Coward, who played only six games at Washington last season, got his clue of what the Grizzlies wanted during his pre-draft workouts: “I mean, they had me doing full-court sprints and running as I do in the games.”

Memphis led the NBA last season with the fastest pace of 103.69 possessions per 48 minutes, so improving on that might be a bit challenging. The phrase “speed kills” is being used as part mantra and part desired play style.

Iisalo sees it as a philosophy of how he wants his Grizzlies to be fast at everything, including pace of play. He doesn’t want to waste anyone’s time, not in a league with little time to recover before the next game.

“It’s also the decision-making, quick decision making in different situations,” Iisalo said. “And generally, if you can be the faster party, it’s going to be very difficult for the other team to keep up with you.”

On defense, Iisalo wants the Grizzlies to get their defensive rating as low as possible, rebound better, protect the rim and generally be difficult to play against. Iisalo recalled an Italian soccer coach’s team being compared to visiting a dentist.

“It should be an unpleasant experience,” Iisalo said.

That would fit in Memphis’ proud tradition of grit and grind. Landale remembers too well tough nights feeling like a dog fight as the visitor playing the Grizzlies.

“It’s one that I think fits my personality, my play style a lot,” Landale said.

The Grizzlies sure went fast during three days of training camp at Belmont University in Nashville.

Scotty Pippen Jr. said he thinks that could make games easier and force opponents into errors.

“We’ll make the other team play faster,” Pippen said.

Turnovers were a problem last season for Memphis as the Grizzlies pushed the ball up the court. Only six teams had a worse turnover ratio.

They know there may be some sloppiness early, but Pippen said creating more takeaways could improve the ratio.

The Grizzlies have injuries in the frontcourt with Jackson a question mark for the start of the season. Center Zach Edey likely won’t be available until November, and Brandon Clarke just had surgery Sept. 29 for right knee synovitis. Morant sprained his left ankle on Oct. 5, but hopes to be ready for the opener.

Caldwell-Pope is the Grizzlies’ most experienced player in his 13th season. He said he loves the fast pace and thinks it fits his style of play and complements a relatively young Grizzlies roster.

“The way we’re going I think we can be back at on top of the West,” Caldwell-Pope said. “With how fast we want to play, the chemistry we building in here and just us playing together is going to be key.”

Jets' Garrett Wilson was 'disappointed' in Aaron Glenn over first-half decision

Jets’ Garrett Wilson was ‘disappointed’ in Aaron Glenn over first-half decision originally appeared on The Sporting News.
Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

With the New York Jets down 10-6, nearing the end of the first half, the Jets had the ball with 84 yards to go to get a touchdown. But they had over three minutes to drive the length of the field. It wouldn’t be easy against a good Denver Broncos defense, but it wouldn’t be impossible.

They began to drive down the field, including running a fake punt to pick up a first down on 4th and 1. However, following a six-yard completion on third and seven to put the Jets on their own 47-yard line, the Jets decided not to run a play, letting the clock expire to end the first half.

After this debacle, Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson was seen on the sideline questioning head coach Aaron Glenn over his decision not to snap the ball. Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic shared what Wilson had to say about this moment, and the superstar wide receiver revealed his disappointment in Glenn’s decision not to snap the ball.

Garrett Wilson was ‘disappointed’ in Aaron Glenn over how the first half ended

“I just didn’t know exactly what the plan was,” Wilson said postgame, “And once I figured it out, I was disappointed.”

Wilson wasn’t alone. Kurt Warner in the broadcast booth was befuddled by Glenn’s decision not to snap the ball, as were the tens of thousands of fans in the stadium in London, and at home in the United States.

Glenn could’ve had the Jets try a long Hail Mary; even if it was improbable, it would’ve been a sign of the Jets trying to make a play. They also could’ve tried a very long field goal that, while even more unlikely, would’ve at least been a sign they were trying.

Instead, Glenn had the Jets give up on the drive and hold onto the ball to expire the clock on 4th and 1. The Jets, down 10-6, with the ball right around midfield, didn’t attempt to score points before halftime.

MoreAnalyst goes scorched earth on ‘atrocious’ Jets after Cowboys loss – ‘You have any pride?’

Any score, whether a field goal or miraculous touchdown, would’ve won the Jets the game. But Wilson’s disappointment isn’t coming from not being able to make a play, but from the team not getting the chance to even attempt such a play.

This decision from Glenn has drawn a lot of ire from the media, players, and fans alike. And for what it represents, the Jets giving up on a drive, it’s not hard to understand why Wilson was disappointed in his head coach’s decision.

Even though the odds of the play resulting in a successful try were slim, they could’ve at least attempted a play. Instead, the Jets fave up, and wound up losing 13-11 in a disappointing loss to drop to 0-6 on the year, remaining the only winless team in the NFL.

South Carolina star forward Chloe Kitts to miss entire season with torn ACL

South Carolina senior forward Chloe Kitts has announced on social media that she will miss the entire 2025 season after tearing the ACL in her right knee.

The injury occurred during a recent team practice, according to a spokesperson for the program.

“Thank you for everyone who has reached out with love and support,” Kitts posted Monday on X. “I recently suffered a torn ACL and, unfortunately, will be out for the season. While this isn’t how I hoped my season would go, I’m trusting God’s timing and purpose. I’ll continue to lead, support and push my teammates from the sidelines. We have big things ahead!”

Kitts will have surgery this week to repair the ACL.

A two-year starter for the Gamecocks, Kitts was last year’s Southeastern Conference Tournament MVP and NCAA Binghamton Regionals MVP.

She averaged 10.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game as a junior last year.

“We hate this first for Chloe, who has worked incredibly hard to become the best version of herself on the court this season,” coach Dawn Staley said in a statement. “Her teammates are capable of stepping up, and I know that her competitive fire and tenacity will be felt from the sidelines as she pours what she can into them to ensure our team’s success.”

It’s uncertain if Kitts plans to seek a medical redshirt and return to the Gamecocks next season. She was projected to be a high pick in next year’s WNBA draft.

It’s another huge blow to the South Carolina women’s basketball program. Ashlyn Watkins, who tore her ACL in January, announced earlier this year that she was taking an entire year off from school and basketball.

Rockets to relaunch ‘dunkstronaut’ City Edition uniforms on Nov. 12

For the new 2025-26 season, in what is effectively a “greatest hits” concept by Nike and the NBA, teams across the league are returning to a previous City Edition uniform.

A few of the NBA’s 30 teams are using alternate color versions, but each is doing at least a variation of a popular concept from the first few years of the program. Most are simply running it back with their most beloved version, as is.

In Houston, that means bringing back the 2023-24 “dunkstronaut” concept. For that, the idea was and is to pay homage to the city’s history (both in basketball and beyond) with a unique uniform featuring a dunking astronaut logo, and it also includes a a custom, matching court design at Toyota Center for those City Edition games.

Rockets Wire first reported the news in June.

On Sunday, players on the Rockets debuted the 2025-26 City threads in a special fan event with season-ticket holders (images and videos below). The next day, the team announced on social media that the dunkstronaut-themed uniforms would return with the Nov. 12 home game against the Washington Wizards.

Game by game, each team’s complete uniform schedule for the 2025-26 campaign will be released on NBA LockerVision in the coming days.

England's Bright retires from international football

Millie Bright captained England at the Women’s World Cup in 2023 [Getty Images]

England defender Millie Bright has announced her retirement from international football.

The 32-year-old, who was part of England’s European Championship-winning team in 2022, made her senior debut in September 2016 and went on to win 88 caps.

“I’ve been weighing this up for a long time,” Chelsea captain Bright said on Monday’s ‘The Rest is Football: Daly Brightness’ podcast.

“It’s one of those decisions no-one can make for you. It’s a feeling and I’m at peace with it.”

Bright missed out as England defended their Euros title in Switzerland in July after ruling herself out of the tournament because she would be unable to “give 100% mentally or physically”.

Over the summer she had successful knee surgery and started counselling sessions, while she said the decision to withdraw from Sarina Wiegman’s squad was “by far the best decision I have ever made”.

“Having the summer to reflect, fix my knee and get my head straight really put things into perspective. As you get older your priorities change. I’ve been craving family time, time with friends and time for myself,” Bright said.

Bright started every game as England won their first major women’s trophy at Euro 2022, and captained them to the World Cup final a year later, which they lost to Spain.

“I’m incredibly proud and honoured to have played for England for so long. Every single cap has been special and the memories I’ve made – especially with this one sat opposite me – have been some of the best of my life,” Bright said on the podcast, which she co-hosts with her friend and former England team-mate Rachel Daly.

“But yeah, it’s time. It’s the right time for me to call it a day with England.”

Bright’s final game for the Lionesses was a 3-2 defeat by Belgium in April.

‘I’m at that crossroads’ – why is Bright retiring?

Before ruling herself out of Euro 2025, Bright’s England future was uncertain when she withdrew from June’s Nations League fixtures – just a month before Wiegman’s side started their title defence.

The centre-back later cited burnout as the reason for her decision, after a season in which she made 36 appearances as Chelsea won the domestic treble of the Women’s Super League (WSL), FA Cup and League Cup.

Chelsea said Bright had knee surgery the day after she made herself unavailable for the Euros.

“Physically I’m at that crossroads,” Bright said on Monday’s podcast.

“Can I be 50% for each – for England and for Chelsea? I want to be all in. To give myself the best chance of doing that and be the best for my club, I probably need to rein it in a little bit.”

More to follow.

What could change in first England squad since Euro 2025?

Arkansas State vs South Alabama Prediction, Picks & Odds for October 14— College Football Week 8

Two Sun Belt teams that could really use a win collide on Tuesday, October 14, when the Arkansas State Red Wolves visit the South Alabama Jaguars.

The Red Wolves broke a four-game losing streak with a win over Texas State last time out, while South Alabama fell to Troy, its fifth loss in a row.

My Arkansas State vs. South Alabama predictions and college football picks don’t expect much scoring from either side.

Arkansas State vs South Alabama prediction

Arkansas State vs South Alabama best bet: Under 59.5 (-105)

I understand the thinking that two of the worst defenses in the Sun Belt colliding could allow for a ton of points — they each give up an identical 31.7 points per game — but the Arkansas State Red Wolves can’t hold up their end of the offensive bargain.

Arkansas State has seen the Under cash in four straight, and only once in that stretch were they able to touch the 60-point plateau, that being a 31-30 win over Texas State last time out.

The Red Wolves are scoring 23.3 points per game (11th in Sun Belt) and are next to last in rushing, averaging just 119 yards per game. It makes their pass offense — fifth in the conference — too predictable, even with a Top-5 ranking in the Sun Belt.

It won’t help that the South Alabama Jaguars are third in the conference in pass defense and a Top-60 team in the nation, allowing 169.2 passing yards.

South Alabama has a 4-2-0 Over record through its first six games of the season, but none of the last four games have gone higher than 58 points.

Arkansas State vs South Alabama same-game parlay

Arkansas State QB Jaylen Raynor has only passed for more than his 250.5-yard line twice this season, but he should remember last year’s performance against South Alabama.

He went 30-for-39 for 345 yards and a TD, only the fourth time he’s hit the 300-yard passing plateau in a game since the start of last year.

Those numbers came in an 18-16 win, so he can pass big while the score stays low.

Bishop Davenport has only topped 200 yards passing once in a game this season, so his 196.5 passing line is a fair number.

It’s a line he’s passed just twice in six games this season. His dual play has been more on the run side of late, running for at least 59 yards in three of the last five, including a season-high 72 yards on 15 carries and a TD.

South Alabama should find success against this poor Red Wolves’ run defense, keeping the ball on the ground more than airing it out.

Arkansas State vs South Alabama SGP

Under 59.5Jaylen Raynor Over 250.5 passing yardsBishop Davenport Under 196.5 passing yards

Our deep-ball SGP: Threading the needle

Chauncey Cobb has alternated between big games and sub-par efforts, and he’s coming off a seven-catch, 39-yard effort against Texas State. This was after a 126-yard game against ULM. It’s been like this all year, so a bigger effort is in store against South Alabama. Meanwhile, Kentrel Bullock leads the Jaguars with five TDs on the season, though he’s coming off a scoreless Saturday against Troy. He has yet to go back-to-back games without a major this season.
