Wisconsin basketball sees shift in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll
After orchestrating a 1-1 week, Wisconsin basketball (19-8, 11-5 Big Ten) fell out the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll Monday.
A week removed from being situated at No. 25 in the poll, the Badgers slid out of the hierarchy into the “receiving votes” territory. The Badgers reeled in 35 votes, the most by any team outside the top 25.
The movement arrives after UW fell 86-69 to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Feb. 17 in Columbus. UW rebounded with a 14-tally win over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday, but the lack of offensive production against OSU proved to be enough to convince voters to alter Wisconsin’s position.
After a road win over former No. 1 Michigan, the Duke Blue Devils assumed the No. 1 position in the poll. Arizona, Michigan, Houston, Iowa State, UConn, Florida, Purdue, Gonzaga and Nebraska round out the top 10. Other Big Ten squads featured in the coaches poll include Illinois (No. 11) and Michigan State (No. 13).
There’s a change at the top once again in the USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll following a busy week of high-profile matchups.
Duke is now the No. 1 team.

Wisconsin wraps its 2025-26 campaign with tests against Oregon, Washington, Maryland and No. 8 Purdue. A strong finish could bolster the team’s standing ahead of the Big Ten Tournament in Chicago, but three of the final four bouts are slated in road environments.

"It's time for Edmond Tapsoba to move on" – Hubert Velud
“It’s time for Edmond Tapsoba to move on” – Hubert Velud
The former Burkina Faso coach urges the Bayer Leverkusen defender to take the next step.
“It’s time for Edmond Tapsoba to move on” – Hubert Velud
Hubert Velud spoke about Edmond Tapsoba’s career on the Africa Foot microphone. The French coach believes the Burkinabé defender has all the attributes to shine for one of Europe’s elite clubs.
Edmond Tapsoba is in demand across Europe, and the former Stallions coach sees this as the perfect moment for the 27-year-old defender to move on.
Many clubs seem interested in him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he left Bayer Leverkusen. For me, I think this is the right time. He’s spent six years at this club, one of the best in Germany.
Among the many clubs reportedly interested in Tapsoba are Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Atlético Madrid, Newcastle, and more. For Velud, the key to making the right decision should be the team’s playing style.
The league isn’t the most important thing. If he leaves Leverkusen, it will be to join a bigger club. In my opinion, what will influence his decision is the style of play. All the clubs you mentioned are giants who love to dominate possession. Some teams have a style that suits him, and I especially think of Paris Saint-Germain.
Hubert Velud, who coached Tapsoba with the national team, praised his development. He concluded by saying that Tapsoba has the potential to establish himself at the very highest level. Edmond Tapsoba’s contract with Leverkusen runs until June 2028.

FC Utrecht: Sébastien Haller drops down the pecking order
FC Utrecht: Sébastien Haller drops down the pecking order
The Ivorian international is struggling to shine in the Netherlands.
FC Utrecht: Sébastien Haller drops down the pecking order
Since his move to the Eredivisie last summer, Sébastien Haller has struggled to make his mark. The FC Utrecht coach now sees the former Dortmund striker as third choice among his forwards.
Sébastien Haller has yet to regain his form and has slipped down the striker hierarchy at FC Utrecht. In matchday 24 of the Dutch league, he came on as a substitute with just one minute remaining against Zwolle (1-1), this after returning from an injury that kept him sidelined for over a month. His coach explained the situation:
He has just returned to the squad and was ready to start the match, maybe to play around fifteen minutes. In terms of match fitness and playing time, he is currently our third option. He needs to maintain his fitness and compete with the others. That requires hard work in training and making the most of any minutes he gets on the pitch.
Ron Jans urges Sébastien Haller to push even harder:
Sébastien has worked hard to get back in shape. His season so far hasn’t gone to plan, but we hope that even if he gets five minutes at the end of a match, he can make a difference. I believe moments like these can help him overcome this tough spell.
With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, the situation of the Elephants’ striker could also become a concern for coach Emerse Faé.

Everton 0-1 Manchester United: Summer Signings Deliver Game Winning Counterpunch at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Photo by Ash Donelon/Manchester United via Getty Images
Matheus Cunha put all of his momentum through an upfield ball, falling to the ground as the ball soared to Bryan Mbeumo on the right wing. One-on-one with his defender, Mbeumo spotted Benjamin Sesko gaining inertia up the middle of the pitch.
With a full head of steam, Sesko was clear of his defender and Mbeumo played a perfectly-weighted pass which Sesko deftly one-timed a curler past Jordan Pickford, giving Manchester United their eventual game winner in the 71st minute.
It was a pitch-perfect counterpunch from Manchester United’s new-look front line after sustained pressure from Everton throughout the start of the second half suggested the momentum would crescendo for the home team.
The responsibility then fell on Senne Lammens and his backline to close up the shop for the final 19 minutes of regulation and five minutes of stoppage. It was a responsibility that the Belgian relished as he punched out corner after corner that the hosts earned. He finished with four saves as Everton only threatened with their most speculative of chances.
United’s four signings proved to be instrumental as interim head coach Michael Carrick earned his fifth win during his opening six-match unbeaten streak. Following a toothless loss to ten-men Everton at Old Trafford in November, the end result at Hill Dickinson Stadium was cathartic even if the opening two-thirds of the match were less inspirational for the Reds.
Manchester United once again sit in fourth place in the Premier League standings and only three points behind third-place Aston Villa.

— The Busby Babe (@TheBusbyBabe) February 23, 2026
The threat that Everton presented in the second half was a far cry from the first half. United owned possession, holding 72 percent of the possession through the opening 30 minutes of the match.
United frustratingly offered little to take advantage, and, outside of the goal-scoring moment, the lack of potency persisted through the match. By the time United had earned their first corner of the match, the clock read 89:45 and Everton had racked up 10 of their own.
Ultimately, United put together a pragmatic performance against a famously stubborn manager in David Moyes and Everton team in their brand-new home, leaving the Toffees to pocket watch another three points claimed by Michael Carrick’s Reds.
United return to Old Trafford to host 13th-place Crystal Palace on Sunday, March 1 before heading to 11th-place Newcastle on Wednesday, March 4, to face the Magpies.

Seahawks statistically out-produced 49ers at Levi's Stadium in 2025/26
The Seattle Seahawks 2025 defense outpaced their NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers in two major counting stats at games in their own stadium, despite playing a quarter of the games they did there.
An X user shared this graphic Friday afternoon showing the ironic comparison.
The Seattle Seahawk’s Darkside defense had more sacks and takeways at Levi’s Stadium this year than the 49ers defense did in all 8 of their home games this season pic.twitter.com/3wuJELuFTS
— Joel Smith 🇻🇪 Superbowl Champion (@joelsmith) February 20, 2026
Seahawks fans have been gloating to 49ers fans constantly since winning Super Bowl LX in their stadium, and this disparity adds even more fuel to their fire.
It’s worth noting that the 49ers defense played well at several points they had no right to this season. They held the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles to just 19 points on the road in the wild card round of the playoffs, and they made it to that point despite losing their best two defensive players in Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. Robert Saleh coached so well as their defensive coordinator, he earned his second shot at a head coaching job for the 2026 season with the Tennessee Titans. What they did in spite of their obstacles was undoubtedly impressive. The real shock of this graphic is just how much better the Seahawks were.
The Seahawks “Dark Side” defense is now being heralded as one of the best of the generation after winning the Lombardi Trophy, and receiving their overdue flowers. Lost in the glory is this ironic stat, that they outpaced their rival 49ers in sacks and interceptions at their own stadium, despite playing only 2 games to their eight in it. Add it to the list of remarkable ways to convey their dominance when discussing it for historical reasons.

Pacquiao and Mayweather agree professional rematch
Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will contest the first professional boxing match to be staged at Sphere in Las Vegas [Getty Images]
Boxing greats Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have agreed a professional rematch in September.
Pacquiao, 47, and Mayweather, 48, will fight at Sphere in Las Vegas on Saturday, 19 September, with the bout live on Netflix.
Former world champion Mayweather announced he would come out of retirement for a fourth time last week.
It will be the American’s first professional fight since beating mixed martial arts fight Conor McGregor with a 10th-round technical knockout in 2017.
Filipino Pacquiao retired from the sport to focus on his political career in 2021 but returned to the ring last July to fight WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, who retained his title after a draw.
Mayweather and Pacquiao first met in 2015, in what was billed as the ‘Fight of the Century’ and remains the richest in boxing history.
It was Mayweather who emerged victorious, beating Pacquiao via a wide unanimous decision in Las Vegas.
It is not yet known over how many rounds or at what weight class the rematch will be contested.
Pacquiao, winner of 12 world titles across eight weight classes, said: “Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history.
“The fans have waited long enough. They deserve this rematch.
“I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”
Mayweather, who turns 49 on Tuesday, said: “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.”
Mayweather has won all 50-0 of his professional fights, with 27 coming by knockout.
He has had a string of exhibition bouts since retiring in 2017 and is scheduled to face Mike Tyson this year.
That is set to be former undisputed world heavyweight champion Tyson’s first fight since the American ended his 19-year retirement in November in a controversial defeat by Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Announcing the end of his retirement on Saturday, Mayweather said: “From my upcoming Mike Tyson event to my next professional fight afterwards: no-one will generate a bigger gate, have a larger global broadcast audience and generate more money with each event than my events.”
Pacquiao, who has 62 wins from his 73 bouts, said in October that the pair were close to agreeing a rematch – but added it was dependent on he and Mayweather being able to “understand each other”.
Their previous meeting in 2015 generated a record 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and a record live gate of $72m at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Full details regarding the undercard and ticket availability will be announced in the coming weeks.
‘Nothing in boxing should shock us any more’ – analysis
What a chaotic few days it’s been for boxing. After Conor Benn’s shock move to Zuffa, the sport has barely had time to reset. But perhaps nothing in boxing should shock us any more.
The first Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was the one everyone demanded for years, yet when it finally arrived in 2015, it had come too late. And then it never lived up to the billing.
Since then, nobody really has been clamouring for a rematch. Certainly not in 2026.
When the rematch was announced, most boxing fans on social media assumed this would be an exhibition. It isn’t.
The finer details are still unclear but if there are any special rules or conditions attached, that’s unlikely to go down well with purists.
There is one hook: Mayweather putting his unbeaten record on the line. And with Netflix involved, you can expect the full promotional treatment – it will be sold as a global event for the casual sports fan.
Ultimately, both men will bank enormous purses for revisiting old ground, and it’s hard to escape the feeling that this is being driven more by the money than anything else.

Everton 0-1 Manchester Utd: Match Report & Instant Reaction | Solid home display falls flat
David Moyes reacts to the loss. (Getty Images} | Getty Images
In a season of ups, downs, and sideway moves for Everton, the reverse fixture at Old Trafford was one of the impressive games of the season. Since then, Manchester United have replaced Ruben Amorim with Michael Carrick and they have been on the up since the change, going nine games unbeaten.
The teams had disappointing results heading into this match with Everton throwing away a lead against Bournemouth and United only managed a very late draw with West Ham. European football is within reach for both teams and a result in games like this one would help achieve that goal.
Team News
David Moyes made three changes with Michael Keane and Tim Iroegbunam replacing Vitaliy Mykolenko and the suspended Jake O’Brien. KDH was at right back and Jarrad Branthwaite lined up at left back. Harrison Armstrong was back in the in the lineup with Dibling and George on the bench.
In the only change for United, Michael Carrick was without defender Lisandro Martinez so he was replaced by Leny Yoro.
Match Report
A night under the lights at Hill Dickinson Stadium started with a rousing rendition of Forever Everton before kickoff as the rain pelted down. United kicked off and they were quickly under pressure from the boys in blue. The early intensity was neutralized with a quick move by United which forced a great save from Pickford and a goal line clearance from Tarkowski.
Pickford was forced to parry a ball that Dalot delivered. Tarkowski then needed some medical support after an aerial duel with Amad led to an awkward fall. Everton were struggling to keep the ball although United’s control was mostly outside dangerous areas. Thierno Barry was taken down by Mainoo which required some treatment and a warmup from Beto. It was a shoulder issue which required an a adjustment of the strapping that he already had in use.
Ndiaye was starting to get on the ball which was encouraging. Some nice control from the Blues had the faithful applauding but it did not lead to any forward progression. A run by Barry showed some intent but United were given the first free kick which ended with Dalot fizzing a shot just wide of the Everton goal.
Iroegbunam was the start of a nice Everton move which had more purpose. Gueye was taken down by Amad on the edge of the box. The resulting free kick was delivered by Garner which forced a comfortable save from Lammens.
A crunching tackle by Garner on Cunha raised the level of the home fans. Fernandes was then apoplectic when the referee refused to give United a corner which should have led to a yellow card for dissent. Three minutes of additional time was wasted by both teams. The half was stop and start so a rethink at half time was needed as the expected goals (xG), for Everton was just 0.04 to United’s 0.45. Enough said…..
No changes for either team at the break. Which manager would stick or twist first? A fast start by Everton led to an opening for Armstrong who forced a nice save from Lammens. The pressure continued but there was no end product.
A loose pass from KDH led to a United chance but Mbuemo fired the ball well over the bar. Some nice holdup play by Barry saw KDH lose possession as Everton tried to counter attack. A slow ball back to Pickford was shielded by Tarkowski as Mbuemo went down like a sack of potatoes. Again, the laughing after was embarrassing for the United player.
Amad was replaced by the recently hot Sesko on 57 minutes. United were on the ball but their final pass was poor. Darren England finally ignored Mbuemo who was on the ground again which allowed the Blues to pile forward. A lovely move down the left saw a Dewsbury Hall shot deflected wide by United. Tyrique George was readied to enter the match as Armstrong and Fernandes got out their handbags.
Another corner for Everton saw Tarkowski drill a ball goalward but Lammens pulled it in. Incredibly, Cunha delivered a scything ball to Mbuemo who slowed the attack and waited for Sesko to catch up. Unfortunately, Tarkowski could not keep up with him and the forward continued his goalscoring streak as he slotted the ball into the corner of Pickford’s goal.
Everton brought on George and another corner was nicely controlled by Lammens. The young winger was immediately on the ball and forced another corner. The big boys were in the box but Lammens punched the ball clear. Pickford was given a yellow card when the referee stopped play for a player to enter the match even though he had not even taken of his tracksuit.
Iroegbunam was taken off for Beto as Moyes threw on two strikers. Gueye sliced a ball wide as Everton tried to get an equalizer. Michael Keane decided to take a pop at goal and his shot needed a scintillating save from Lammens. The resulting corner was delayed as a pushing match led to a yellow card for both Tarkowski and Maguire.
The final five minutes had Everton on the front foot but they could not pierce the United backline. Everton’s 10th corner was delivered by Garner but the United defense stood firm. A rare foray into the Everton half led to United’s first corner as five minutes of added time was announced.
A long free kick from Pickford developed into a counter attack from United but this time Pickford prevented Sesko from sliding the ball into the net. Everton immediately broke down the pitch and a blistering shot from George needed a great save from Lammens. Tarkowski and Cunha were at each other after Bruno Fernandes was given a yellow for a poor foul on Dewsbury-Hall.
The push was stopped as Darren England blew the final whistle to give Manchester three points that were not well earned. Twelve shots, with four being on target led to zero big chances for Everton. United took their chance and slinked off back down the East Lancs Road knowing that they nicked this one.
Everton’s Man of the Match
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall: Throughout the match, Everton were driven forward by KDH. He created Everton’s one real chance and made 13 defensive contributions. His touchmap showed his influence across the width of the pitch. If there was a forward who could do something with his buildup play then we might have something.
Instant Reaction
This was a nearly-but-not-quite game for much of the match. The first half was short of chances with Pickford needing to make a couple of saves and Lammens needing to stay awake other than the Garner free kick. Everton’s second half was much better but the counter attack goal from Sesko tipped the scales in favour of the Mancs. Once again, Everton’s frailties going forward were on show as the team struggled to get the important goal. A final xG of 0.67 says it all despite the Blues controlling most of the second half.
There has been a lot of discussion over the last two weeks about the atmosphere at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Tonight, as Everton battled United for every inch of the grass, that support was very obvious. No frustrating moans or boos. Even after the United goal, the support continued and there was an appreciation for the work that was being done by the boys in blue. Even at the end there was an appreciation for the play that the crowd had seen. They were disappointed but they were not booing.
Harrison Armstrong was given the chance on the wing and his work throughout the match was strong. Unfortunately, if you don’t contribute going forward then there is problem when we are already short of attacking play. Perhaps Armstrong is being held back by Moyes. We already have both Gueye and Iroegbunam sitting deep, stifling Armstrong is not the answer. When George came on there was more attacking impetus. He came on when we had gone behind but he had been waiting for at least five minutes to enter the match. The question is whether Moyes was making the move for the win?
