Seahawks' Mike Macdonald ties unique NFL record for head coaches
If there is any group of people out there who do not need to be reminded of how special a head coach Mike Macdonald is, it will be fans of the Seattle Seahawks. In two years, they watched Macdonald transform their declining defense into one of the best the league has ever seen to bring home a second Lombardi trophy.
But just in case there is someone who might need reminding… or if folks are looking for more ammo in their belt when talking to friends/opposing fans… here’s another one: Mike Macdonald has officially tied Jim Harbaugh and Steve Mariucci for most wins by a head coach in his first two years at the position.
Just the beginning. pic.twitter.com/76cDMWnjSM
— Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks) February 23, 2026
When looking at the first two years of these three men, it’s interesting how they seem to parallel each other in reverse. Both Harbaugh and Mariucci started hot with their tenures as 49ers head coach. Mariucci’s season in the Bay Area was 13-3 but a home loss in the NFC Championship, followed by a 12-4 record in his season season but being eliminated a week earlier in the Divisional Round. Similarly, Jim Harbaugh’s first season with San Francisco was a 13-3 campaign with a home loss in the NFCCG. Harbaugh’s second season was more successful, going 11-4-1 and a trip to the Super Bowl, which was a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
As for Mike Macdonald, he didn’t enjoy the lofty No. 1 seed caliber season right out of the gate. His Seahawks finished 10-7 and narrowly missed the playoffs due to the fifth tiebreaker. However, Macdonald obviously flourished in year two, finishing with an overall record of 17-3 and earning that 27th victory with a win in Super Bowl LX.
The 2025-2026 season for the Seahawks was defined by many things, and chief among them was cementing clear and undeniable ownership over the rival 49ers for the rest of time. It seems eliminating the 49ers in humiliating fashion and winning the Super Bowl in their own stadium wasn’t enough… now Mike Macdonald has stolen some of the shine away from two of their previous head coaches as well.

UNC basketball ranked Top-30 in Andy Katz' weekly rankings
Thanks to Henri Veesaar’s return on Saturday, the UNC basketball team is back in the win column. North Carolina roared ahead midway through the second half on Saturday, downing Syracuse 77-64 and sweeping the season series.
Earlier last week, the Tar Heels lost an embarrassing, 82-58 rivalry battle with NC State. UNC looked overwhelmed from opening tip, with the host Wolfpack (19-8, 10-4 ACC) playing off a rowdy crowd.
North Carolina is still in the rankings ahead of Monday night’s home clash with Louisville – and a win should further improve its standing. In college basketball analyst Andy Katz’ latest Power 37 rankings, the Tar Heels dropped to 29th.
UNC sits between Iowa (28th) and Georgia (30). The Hawkeyes split a pair of ranked games last week, upsetting Nebraska and losing at Wisconsin, while the Bulldogs upset Kentucky and Texas.
North Carolina is still awaiting Caleb Wilson’s return, but his teammates are stepping up, including unlikely heroes like Zayden High. The Tar Heels’ backcourt is still trying to find consistency, but senior captain Seth Trimble is a key behind big games.

UNC faces a brutal schedule to end regular season play, starting with the ranked Cardinals (20-7, 9-5 ACC) on Monday night. North Carolina hosts Virginia Tech on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m., Clemson next Tuesday at 7 p.m., then a rematch at Duke on March 7.
The Tar Heels currently sit in a sixth-place tie with Louisville in the ACC, meaning they’d have a single bye in the ACC Tournament. UNC has an outside chance to clinch the ACC regular season title, but needs the conference-leading Blue Devils (25-2, 13-1 ACC) and others to, essentially, lose out.

MLB analyst makes the case for Jo Adell to repeat as Angels' power king
MLB analyst makes the case for Jo Adell to repeat as Angels’ power king originally appeared on The Sporting News.

For many seasons, the Los Angeles Angels moved as Mike Trout did. He was the sole face of the club’s offense after Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and he has had a difficult time staying healthy.
Trout missed a month of the season in 2025 after suffering a bone bruise in his left knee, the same knee he had surgery on in 2024. After coming back, he was reduced to being used as the primary DH for the club.
And while Trout was trying his best to give the Angels all he had, someone else stepped up to be the face of the offense, and that would be outfielder Jo Adell.

MLB analyst makes the case for Jo Adell to repeat as Angels’ power king
Mike Trout could only muster up 26 home runs last year, tying him for third place alongside Zach Neto. Taylor Ward would go on to have a great season, hitting 36 home runs, but it was not enough to be the home run leader for the Halos.
That prize would go to Adell, who hit a career-high 37 home runs last season over the course of 152 games.
While he may take a step back this year, Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes he can be the home run leader for the Angels once again in 2026.
“Despite his poor batting average and middling defense, the Angels gave Jo Adell a full runway to prove himself last season. The 26-year-old responded by finishing in fourth on the AL leaderboard with a career-high 37 home runs, and while a potential Mike Trout resurgence looms, Adell now stands as a top-tier power threat.”
Now, if the Angels can get a healthy and resurging year from Trout, they could be in a much better position than they have been over the last few years.
